Definitely a long box. The longer wheel base helps the ride a lot, and slows down the fishtailing on gravel, or in snow/ice conditions. The downsides are...because it weighs a bit more, payload is reduced by a few hundred pounds. That and they're a little more awkward in tight parking spaces etc. The longer bed is well worth though it if you actually intend to use it as a truck rather than just a large car. I wish they made the mega cab as a long box.

Longbeds aren't just for work trucks! I love mine, its my DD. They are better for ride for sure. It is a little bit of a pain to park, but thats why they invented the parking spaces at the back of the lot, lol.

 

I actually prefer the short box. I fit my ATV in no problem, plywood, ect. Just my opinion, but Ive always thought long box trucks were fugly.

Its still a truck, not a large car, (roll eyes^). My payload is actually MORE of what a truck is than your long box. Thats like saying I have a short box (real truck, not a school bus)

If you need the extra bed space for hauling stuff get a long bed. If not you'll probably get tired of parking it. I've driven many 4 door long beds for work and they can be a pain. But practical when the extra 2 feet are needed. On company I worked for had a 4 door F450 with a 10 foot flatbed on it. There were a couple times I got stuck in parking lots waiting for someone to move, or making 20 point turns.

Longer the wheel base the more comfortable the ride will be. As everyone else has pointed out there are pros and cons to either, I won't bother you by listing mine.

 

No problem parking my long bed dually. I don't park at the front of the lot anyways and wouldn't even if I had a small car.

 

We have a member here that had one of the first conversions done. He has since sold it.

 

saying a short box is just a large car is absolutely ignorant
for a lot of us, a long box is a massive handicap, the times i've needed a longer bed, i grabbed my trailer, i'm still more manuverable, and most long boxes take up two spots in a parking lot, so there's no loss there.
if you know you won't be getting in tight spots, a long box is a great luxury
for me, it'd be an absolute hell, that's what trailers are for
if you plan on keeping it on the hwy, and plan on big loads, or needing a gooseneck or 3rd wheel, i definitely suggest a long box
if the truck is going to see some trips through the woods, or tight spots, or city streets with trailers, etc ,i'd strongly suggest a short box, there are some parking lots you can barely get through in a long box ,why do you think you see so many of em with huge dents on the side of the bed...

If someone put a dent in my bed, they'd be finding a good sized one in the side of their head lol. I've had both long and short bed trucks and have never had any issues getting places with the long wheelbase truck. I definitely agree though if I am taking my truck on a trail or something, I would have some serious issues with length. I take mine through downtown Cincinnati to school all the time and even park in a parking garage with no issues.

 

That's what I was saying, they both have advantages, but the long wheel bases DO ride nicer and handle the loose stuff a bit better. There are plenty of long box pickups that are large cars too....as in never had anything bigger than a grocery bag in the box. Like I said, to each his own. To me, living on gravel roads, and having to leave the tailgate down to haul an 8 foot bike or snowmobile would be insanity. If I lived in a city and nothing to haul, I wouldn't have a truck in the first place.

The OP was questioning traction control/comfort/ride, not parking.

Everyone has an opinion, I think shortbox trucks look ridiculous! But that's what makes us all different, freedom of choice. If not for that, we would never have the choice to be able to even think about which to get. They would all be the same!

i have to give it to a long box, they do ride better, more of that cadillac floating feel

it's interesting how people think a truck is only used as a truck if it's hauling or towing, hell i used to load my little mazda protege up with 1k lbs of sakrete before i bought my truck, that's plenty to haul!
my truck sees plenty of tight wooded trails on my land, back trailers in and out of tight spaces, and muddy runs through pastures, for all of that, i'm thankful for the short box, and with how high my truck sits, i hate putting 4 wheelers, and bikes in it, the ramps have to be extremely long, i just use a trailer

 

I agree with the ride, and to each his own, but I can't agree with "without it it's just a large car". That's just a silly comment, and untrue to the full extent

 

Give it up already V2rider, I know its tough to think of our trucks as a large cars but the first step with your denial is acceptance. it took me 6 months and thousands in therapy but ive never been happier in my large car!!

i can't use the bed for my toy, but this regular cab short box truck hauls it just as well as a long box...the ride is just a bit rougher...

in my opinion a truck isnt defined by what you use it for but what it physically is its got a cab a frame and a box and a tailgate. sure you got the road queens (my truck), ditch witches, workhorses, and then off roaders(my old truck) but its still a truck not a larger car.

now i prefer to have a 4dr longbox but look what i drive. i drive a reg cab short box because im starting college soon and will be parking in tight parking spots driving around a somewhat big city (big to me) alexandria mn so now if i need to haul my lil camper around or my motorcycle or wheeler i have the box and hitch for that purpose but i also do need to drive in bigish citys so i needed something compact and
