OK this might be it, when I first got mine it did that same thing, I hunted forever,only did it sometimes, turned out to be the right side seat belt , the male metal part was turned towards the plastic piece and rattles going down the road, it still does it today if someone gets out of it and it flips around, very noticible sound, its worth a look...

 

I'm not sure if it is that whats making the issue. I believe its not even inside the cab honestly. Its so far forward towards the windshield on the driver side that is as if its in the wheel well and or under hood. Possibly the wiper cowl. I noticed this once it really started getting super cold here. its -8 degrees here today and having a brand new truck I suppose don't help with creaks since in my head I can understand some creaks the vehicle makes since one its NEW and all the seals and trim is NEW and hasn't had time to relax yet then the cold constricting these parts don't help this either. those creaks I ignore/.

but this damn rattle sound I cant ignore. Really blows because its so cold I aint freezing to death outside looking for this just yet.

 

I seem to have the same rattle but it seems to be on the passenger side. Almost sounds like ice on the wiper and it taps on the glass. Cannot figure it out and it comes and goes. Seems worse in the colder weather too.

 

Dead nuts to what I have dealt with every year when the weather is cold. I finally had a friend of me riding with me when it started again. He pushed on part of the dash (near the winshield, upper right corner of the dash, pushing down towards the ground) and it stopped. I finally pulled my A-pillar and, using some black sewing material my wife had, shoved the material down into the dash...hasn't been back in over a week.

 

I know you said it was coming from the driver side, but check out your plastic cover behind the rearview mirror that hides the wires. I had a rattle when I bought the truck and it ended up being that piece, but it echos so it didnt sound like it was coming from there. Just something to check...

 

Soon as it warms up im gonna declare war on this sound. If I bought a loud exhaust I don't think id hear it. So if I cant fix it or find whatever this sound is then gives me more reason to spring for a exhaust system I want. But regardless I really would like to find the issue.

Its starting to warm up so I may be able to check it out this weekend. Ill keep you all posted if I find anything. I appreciate all your help with those who have chimed in.

 

I had the same type of noise in my 2013 1500 (w/3500 miles), it sounded almost like a glass bottle in the inner fender. From the driver seat it sounded like it was coming from the door jam or way up inside the dash. I had it in the shop twice before they found it, it was a body mount behind the front bumper that they said was "dry" so they took it apart greased it up and put it back together. I'd never heard of greasing a body mount before but the noise is gone. It would rattle with the slightest bump in the road but would almost go away when it was raining because the moisture would lubricate it. Don't know if this is your problem or not but worth checking out.

 

I got the same annoying rattle today..

I didn't hear anything on the 80 mile trip down to the casino, but as soon as we left to come home, it showed up. I stopped and checked the cowl for ice and snow, we even came home a different way thinking it was the wind, but still had the noise. I drove a ways back, checked under hood, whole front end, and still have the noise. It was bad enough, I had the stereo on 25 to try and drown it out.

Mine sounds like is in the column or behind the cluster and like its a handful of loose screws rattling around. I have just over 600 miles on it. I haven't even had the truck over 45 mph till today. It was below 0 out for the whole trip today.

 

My Drive home Friday was the warmest its been here in awhile 35 degrees. The whole ride home I didn't notice the rattle noise once till.. Just before I got home. I shut the radio off. Happy that the sound was gone. Then sure as heck the sound appeared again. Ridiculous! :,(

 

When it gets below 20F I notice a rattle from my sunroof area. Different kind of rattle than yours, but I understand the frustration!

 

The factory uses break away spacers to hold windshield up while glue/sealer is setting. You have to take off the cowl piece that covers the wipers. When you do this you will see the 2 yellow'ish colored pieces between the windshield and 2 black spacers. Gently remove the yellow'ish pieces and your noise will stop. I had my windshield replaced is how I know. Safelite uses tape to hold up windshield while sealer/glue is setting.

 

Interested to see what you find. I have a rattle in my 2013 sport, only 3500 miles on it and it has rattled since probably 1k. The rattle for me sounds like middle of the dash or somewhere around the radio, but ive beat and pounded on everything and nothing works. I can definitely relate to your frustration! New trucks shouldn't do this!

 

Any info on this? My 2014 express just started doing it as well....only 2000 miles on it. Can't track the noise down while driving

 

My 2014 ram 1500 has a creaking noise from the dash near the windshield on the drivers side. I have 2500 miles on it. It sounds like the noise everyone is explaining. The noise happens consistently over bumps and when the body flexes. I am dropping it off at the dealer on Friday . I will update when they figure it out.

I'm sorry to hear about your noise issue on your new Ram. It's good that you have made arrangements to get it to the dealer. In order to help the process, be sure to demonstrate the noise for the service dept. If you are able to go on a test-drive, having the dealer hear the noise will help to locate the possible cause.

 

I have had the same rattle.. and it took 3 different friends riding with me to find it.. + 1 wife who didnt find it..

mine was actually my wheel well liners, the wind moves them causing them to chatter... although on the inside it sounds like its coming from behind the dash...

i was pretty excited to find the rattle, but a little upset i tore the interior apart looking for a noise that was actually on the outside.

 

I was wondering on mine...

I thought it might be my wheel liners as my mud flaps sit right up against them. I actually rode with the tech when I had it in, and we couldn't get it to act up. I will do some more checking on my front liners this weekend when we are FINALLY above freezing temps outside.

 

I never checked the wheel well liners. Would explain why I've heard it on both sides of the truck (primarily on the drivers side tho) and mostly at 50+mph.

I don't know if it matters but I don't have front mud flaps like some.

 

Ive got the same type of noise in my dash. But it doesn't have to be cold. When I push on the dash above the stereo it goes away. I also have an intermittent one by the back seat driver side seat belt. It seems to be coming from behind the C pillar. Very annoying that we spend 30+ thousand dollars on these trucks and they have these type of problems.

 

Picked my truck up from the dealer and the noise is now gone. They said they removed the top dash bezel, cluster and Lf speaker and removed the matting for the left lower glass plate. Not sure what that all means but I put 200 miles on it today and it was silent. The service writer said his shop Forman worked on it for about 6 hours figuring it out.

Thanks for posting the update. I'm happy to hear the dealer was able to isolate the cause and take care of it for you. If you're interested in how exactly those repairs addressed your noise, your service dept. should be able to give you a few more technical details as well.

 

Several different fixes

I have read a few of the posts and some seem to have the same issue as mine. A brand new Dodge vehicle, mine is a Durango and it makes me wanna say dammit when i go over 50 mph suddenly. Just hit 2000 miles and this rattling noise is driving me crazy. Took it in the service dept and they couldn't find it, and i believe the problem there is they won't drive your vehicle over 55mph. you have to actually be the driver to go any faster and then listen for the noise yourself. They of course couldn't hear any of the noise i was referring to. Frustrating. It's not even subtle, it's loud enough that a passenger will hear it. Some have said it's under the dash speakers, behind the steering column, in the driver's door, or now outside in the wheel well. Has anyone had any definite answers on this?

 

Just had mine in the shop and they it was the plastic piece between the hood and windshield that runs the width of the truck (for some reason I can't think of what its called). It wasn't seated correctly and was rattling when the wind hit it just right.

I checked that piece you are referring to. And i can't be sure that is the cause of the noise, however i did notice that one side was not seated correctly. I pushed the far left piece back into the area and it still doesn't seem to be seated very securely but is now seated. Almost as if it wasn't quite long enough. And it doesn't slide at all. Not that I would want it to as that would cause another issue. I will try to see if i can get the service dept to have it seated better and see if that fixes that rattle issue. Something in my mind tells me that was just one issue found by looking for something else.

 

With the warmer weather mine has gone away... guess I will chase it next winter
