Just bought a 2006 Ram with 5.9 cummin, 6sp manual. Truck is immaculate with super low mileage (35K), runs great.
My only problem is it take 5-8 cranks to start. Sometimes it helps to turn key to run 1st, wait a couple sec (put on seat belt) then crank. But that doesn't always works.
I see there's a "TSB 18-003-06: Long Crank When Starting And/Or Transmission Shift" for this long crank issue which requires a reflash and my truck does match the manufacture date range. Of course I have no idea if prior owner ever did this reflash.
I was also wondering if the OEM lift pump is good, so I did install a Edge monitor and it's showing 9 psi at idle and never dips under 5psi. From what I see online that's normal for cp3 model. I can't really tell if the pump is running before crank either.
What's the best way to handle this? Just go to dealer and ask them to reflash with the latest for this model? or give them this specific TSB and have them do just that. I'm assume truck is out of warranty so they'll charge just for labor I guess?
Thanks in advance for your input!
