Box looks nice, fit pretty well in the cubby hole (not 'like a glove', but good). Its too bad the carpet is black, my 07 has grey interior.

In any case, I installed a Kicker Comp 10, polyfill and a JBL BP300.1 amp (150x1 @ 4ohm). It sounds ok, but it won't go deep at all. It hits the higher bass notes real loud, but the low notes (say under 50Hz) that make you 'feel' the bass just aren't there. In fact, the sub doesn't even move that much when it goes low. I've checked polarity and it's fine.

Any ideas? Maybe the wrong sub? Should I seal off the port? Kicker comp's should work in a ported box up to 1.25 cu ft. So far, this setup is pretty disappointing.

Well a single 10 wont go after the lows too extreme, but thats my one complaint about the duel 10 box. it's got a bad rolloff. My guess is it's tuned more around 40-45 hz (with the almost required polyfill), because i get some serious movement on the subs below 40 without nearly as much output as around 50-55 hz. It's not ideal, but still better than any of the other under the seat style prefab boxes.

You might have better luck going sealed. At least it should flatten out the response curve, but you'll probably lose some output in the upper bass range. I've got my system EQed to compensate some, but the low notes are definitely lacking. I'm considering it myself.

Sound deadener might help, but I'm stuck spending all my money on performance right now.

I agree, a 12 would hit lower. I would also say that this setup with a 10 should hit lower than it does. I've been putting systems in for about 12 years and this just isn't right. It may be the setup like you said, because I've used this same sun and amp in another car and it killed.

So, any suggestions?

I've had my best of luck with sealed boxes and the bigger the sub, the better it hits the lows like you want (like stated above). I have a single ten in a sealed box and hits pretty good, even w/the small amp i have pushing it. i'd deff. try sealing before purchasing a new sub..

just my .02, good luck..

I have (1) 10" sub in a sealed box an it hits the lows pretty good. Sometimes it shocks me with how loud and deep it sounds.

Check what the recommended ported enclosure size is for your sub? What it should be ported at. What is the cu. ft. of the fox box.

And that's w/ factory deck using a LOC! :D

I can second that one ;)

10's should be able to do fine....

So I checked up on the specs of the single 10" fox box. It's only rated at 1.0 cu. ft. of air space & tuned to 32hz.

Those speakers, however, need at least 1.25-1.75 cu. ft. in a ported box. (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-TlYzB7sSIYa/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=520&I=2065C104).

Also, it says right in the specs of the fox box that the Alpine Type R work great. If you look at those, you can see that the ported box volume is only 0.6-1.3 cu. ft. (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-TlYzB7sSIYa/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?search=alpine+type+r&i=500SWR1042)

I say you have the wrong speakers in there....there's just not enough air for them and they're getting held back.

yup. As stated above, you are using the wrong speaker in this application. The box is too small for the sub. I have used several of the newer Kicker C10s, and they are not impressive at all. There cvr's and higher models are nice though. Everyone that uses Fox Boxes with Alpine Type R's cant rave enough about the sound quality and sub bass response.

My comp is an 04 model I think, so not sure if the specs are the same. Probably are. Anyway, I had this sub, so I didn't want to just go out and buy a type R. I guess it won't work so well, so I'll try sealing the box. Definitely cheaper than a new sub since I am trying to stay on a budget.

How much did you pay for the box. I think you can get a Type R for less than $100.

I'd think I'd have to disagree with the 12 hitting lower in your case. With the air space, I bet the 10" is closer to its "peak" air space, and performance.

12"s do it harder, not by much, 10"s are "tighter", and 12"s need depth to hit real low. Only bad thing about under our seats...

10's can hit just as low as 12's in the right enclosure. Its all about the box. If you have the biggest box you can fit in there, just get the corresponding speaker for the cubic footage.

I sell comp 10's and 12's all day at my shop. For a budget woofer they are nice, but are very picky on enclosure size. Hope this helps.
