Hello all!

I just picked up a mopar 360 shortblock crate motor from a private sale. The problem is the guy doesn't no what the part # is. This engine has pistons with 2 valve relifs cut, the block has LA oil holes but also has the magnum roller lifter spider retainer holes drilled and tapped. The block also has the magnum block mount pads. Im going to be using magnum heads on it should I plugs the LA oil holes. This block also has the magnum engine cast number 53020006360

Im trying to figure out what balancer I need? Are the magnum and LA flex plate bolt patterns different?

Here's what the motor looks like.

IIRC the magnum engines used a 90 degree hole pattern on the flex plates.

i know the magnum uses less weight on the dampener than the LA version 360
bought my 6500rpm dampener from performance specialties.
i still would like to know what that mount on the chain cover is?

Hi Spun!

Im thinking that opening is for the LA heater bypass, the magnums use a small tube on the other side instead.

I just pulled the pistons and there Sealed Power H116CP stock bore. Im going to pull the crank and have the balance checked.

That looks like a mounting boss for a fuel pump. Didn't some early magnums have that with a block off plate bolted on?

thats the fuel pump mount on the timing chain cover,,,, to me it looks like LA block
on the side of the block should be cast number 318,,340,,340 ta ,,360 think same with the roller motors also then there some were should be stamped a serial number

Im pretty sure I got this shortblock figured out. It is part# P4876913 10:1 hyper pistons uses LA balance.

Thin Crank Vibration Damper -- Externally Balanced (1971-92 360, Short Blocks P4876906-08, P4876913)

I now need to figure out the flexplate balance, maybe I can get a new converter weighted for the 92 LA 360 and use 318 flexplate. Mopar sells a Performance Balance and Positioning Template Package for torque converters

360' s are all externally balanced, as mentioned the weight size changes between The LA series and Magnum engines. The weight(s) on the converter moved to the flexplate starting in 96 along with the square mounting pattern to the converter. This was done so the same converter could be used on all engines and the flexplate would be bolted to the engine already making assembly of correct parts easier on the assembly line.
