don't know the specs but I know of a guy who did just that with an MTX 10 and it sounds good for what it is.... doubt you'll be satisfied coming from the system you had though.

 

friend is out tonight........I think I'll pull his sub and box out and see how it performs with this amp. At least just for grins!!

 

I was wondering about the stock Alpine set up lately. Have you pulled the door insert off and seen the style of them? I was wondering if they were just a typical "cant tell except for the name on the back" speaker or do they actually show true Alpine influence? Co-ax tweeters, kevlar cones etc? What are the sizes, 5 1/4 in the back 6/9 in the front?

 

I belive I'll be doing the same. The stock sub doesn't sound bad (after playing with some settings) and it's nice to still retain the fold-flat.

 

based on the pics on Dodge's website........the alpine looks like the normal cheap speakers.

and......I couldn't get the dang thing out tonight. tried getting it out of the box......no go. tried to remove the entire box........screws just spin. WTF?

So, I gave up.

Damn, wish I could remember what I did to mine... but I hd it out before. I even forgot to plug it back in so had to go back in when something didn't sound right. lol

 

well there are 8 hex head screws on top of the sub. I removed those.......couldn't pull the sub out. I then tried to remove the philips head screws (4 of them) and they just spun in place. It was dark out......so I said "screw it" and took my friend for a fun little ride in v2.

 

Where is the sub under the rear seat? I wont know until 6-8 weeks

 

yeah, its under the pass rear seat. and then its covered.......doesn't make much sense.

 

Yeah checked out the Dodge site on the Alpines. No offence to any guys who have the upgrade but thats a joke. I think Alpine put there name on them and had nothing to do with them otherwise. It shows no quality for Alpine and atleast with the Kicker upgrade it showed in style and performance materials.

I haven't heard the Kicker setup...........and when I saw that this truck had the Alpine setup I was enthused for about 2 seconds. then I heard it.

 

Kicker's set up isnt full aftermarket kicker but def shows more quality than the Alpine. Its a bit sad that a company as great as Alpine is putting such a substandard setup in the trucks. But I guess Chrysler is partially to blame. Cheap setup = cheaper cost.

 

yup.........it was a cheap option too. It was $495 with park assist. I can do without both......

 

I dunno... I mean no, it's not as good as something aftermarket... but it's a lot better than the system without it in there.

Either way... yes, it'll get upgraded though. But the best thing about the Premium system is I got speakers in the headliner too.

I was thinking more of pulling it off because if I upgrade and put different componets in it... well it won't be an Alpine system anymore. lol I only saw one set of Alpine subs I'd put in... but they won't fit in anything less than a custom box.

 

where is the factory am located? is there a more powerful factory amp from maybe another factory setup that we could replace this amp with and then upgrade the sub? i like the system in general but i think it could be improved on. i like the headliner speakers and thought if the system was decent enough i wouldnt have to spend some cash on aftermarket parts but i guess i could do a little if a little is all i would have to do to improve this system.

Not sure where it is... would be nice to find out and see what can be put in there. If a sweet multi channel amp can be installed, then a simple speaker upgrade will cover everything and still use the factory wiring (with exception to power and ground).

 

Most likely the amp is behind the plastic kick panel on the right side where the antenna enters the vehicle. That's where it been on Dakota's, Durango's and 2nd and 3rd gen Rams. Should be able to see and/or feel it without removing the kick panel.

 

I dont agree on the Alpine comment. I personally believe Alpines one of the best manuf. on the market and would leave the Alpine decal on. If your talking about components I'd throw in some Alpine Type X Components. The things are amazing. I dont believe the Type X sub would even fit the truck though. A little big, about 8 11/16 depth.

The price on the Type X PRO components though...$699.99 Bad A** none the less!

Or maybe $399.99's more to taste?

No, the Type-X sub will not fit... I'd like to though as then it'd be keeping the Alpine system as a whole. As it is... I'll likely be going with JL 10W6's. Not sure if I'll go with matching JL componets too or upgrade the Alpines to keep it an "Alpine" system (which the badge would remain).

 

oh, don't get me wrong - Alpine makes some nice stuff...........just not the stuff they branded and stuck in my truck!

so how is everybody swapping the sub? is there a way of disconnecting the alpine sub? i too would like to throw in a JL but figured if i changed subs i would have to change out amps, which would get tricky and confusing since factory doesnt use a basic power, ground, remote setup for factory amps correct?

 

What I want to know is, the inputs for the factory sub, where can I look for them on my truck? I do NOT have the alpine setup but I'm figuring the wiring might be there......so my question is, where EXACTLY is y'alls factory amp at?

ive installed an alpine pdx 600 watt class d amp and stuck in dual 10" RE subs underneath the back seat. It hits pretty hard and does the job..

also i have installed hertz component speaker speakers in the front doors... really nice upgrade.

right now im using the stock head unit to power everthing except the subs and i hae to scream to the passenger if we want to talk when its full blast.

to remove the stock sub there is a screw INSIDE the stock box.. so you have to remove the actual speaker to tget to it.

i tapped the rear door spoeakers to get the signal for my rear subs. and used the signals to the dash to power the Hertz

im about to get a matching 2 channel amp to power the hertz and a new head unit soon.. but for now this set up is pretty good for the simple upgrades

 

so the sub does come out of the box? I pulled like mad on it............am I missing something?
