I am tired of taking this truck to repair shops to have this transmission repaired. I am going to replace it once and for all, problem is I dont know what model it is. Can any one help me determine what it is? It is a 1999 Ram 1500 4X4, 5.9L. HAs over drive . Vin# is 3b7hf13zxxg162628. Anyone know? Thanks guys. Also I am going to replace the torque converter, does it have to be a locking one or can I use the non locking?

46RE is the model. Not 100% on the torque converter so I will leave that up to someone else.

I dont think so, I think the 46RH might be the 518.

The 46RH, 46RE are basically an A-518

Not to be a prude, but I've noticed that a lot of guys are having trouble with the 46RE transmission. My '94 Ram Van has the 46RH, and it's been a great transmission with over 114,000 miles on it.

The Chrysler 32RH, 36RH, and 37 RH are three speed, fully automatic transmissions used in the 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks. The 32RH is used with 3.9L and 5.2L engines. The 36RH (auto 3 spd) & RE (Overdrive) is used for heavy duty 5.2L and 5.9L engine applications. The 37RH is used with diesel and V10 engines.

A three element torque converter with a converter clutch is used with all three transmissions. The converter hub on 1993 and later models was changed to accept the new style drive flats on the oil pump inner gear. The new converter is not interchangeable with previous designs.

Converters used:
9.75" or 10.75" used with 3.9L, 5.2L, and 5.9L gas engines.
12.2" used with V10 and diesel engines.

Mopar ATF+ type 7126 Fluid is recommended. Dextron II should only be used where Mopar ATF+ is not available.
