What engine oil do you use on the 5.7L Hemi

Just wondering as I'm coming up on my first oil change if I should switch to synthetic oil. I don't know if the Hemi would like Mobil 1 0-40W or another synthetic. I am too lazy to go out in the truck and read the owners manual.

The Hemi uses 5W20. I'm changing tomorrow to synthetic. It was actually tough to find at the local parts store, but Wally World had plenty of it.

7qts.

Sca, have you seen this stuff on Horsepower TV on the Spike channel, it's a performace additive to the oil and it gives you a 5% increase in HP as per their demonstration on the Dyno. http://www.px3lubricants.com/ Looks pretty interesting.

Cool... thanks for the input. I didn't know they took different weights of oil. I went to full synthetic this morning. When I first got the D, I switched to synthetic blend... now full synthetic.

Also cleaning the throttle body as described in sca's other thread... sounded like a good idea so that's what I am doing this afternoon. Can't afford to drive the damn thing this weekend so I might as well work on it... LOL

Gonna do an oil change, transmission oil change, and gear oil change at about 35k with nothing but all Royal Purple. It seems to work well and I trust that company's products and their reputation.
Do some checking over at the Ram section...most Ram Guys go away from Royal Purple! It discolors your whole engine purple when you take it a part!

My cap says 5W20 also and mine is a 05 HEMI (non MDS), this is what the 05 owners manual says to use and this is what I follow: Engine Oil Viscosity (SAE Grade)
For 3.7L/4.7L engines SAE 5W-30 engine oil is recommended for all operating temperatures. For 5.7L engines SAE 5W-20 engine oil is recommended for all
operating temperatures. These engine oils improve low temperature starting and vehicle fuel economy. Refer to your engine oil filler cap for the recommended engine
oil viscosity for your vehicle.

Anyone seen the new Mobil 1 fuel economy boost oil? I seen it yesterday for the first time. It is 0w-30 and says it exceeds 5w-30 for required warranty coverage. Thinking about switching to it, but my truck knocks louder with thinner oil.

Mobil 1 5W-20 100% synthetic is the only stuff my 06 Hemi (MDS) will ever drink. Dodge relabels Mobil 1 for the synthetic they sell.

Over here all the SRT4s are proudly advertised as coming with mobl1 from factory... no relabeling...

You must have more honest dealerships in Alberta. :D
My service advisor looked at me like I was from Mars when I told him I was using synthetic. He didn't even know Mobil1 made the stuff the parts dept sold. According to him, I'm the only one in town using it??????
