I looking for something that will keep my boxer in the backseat of the truck. I bought him one of those pet hammocks but within 2 days he had broke the zippers on it. I am not a big fan of putting him in the back of the truck cause he has abandonment issues. I just trying to keep him in the back seat cause he likes to stand on the center console when I'm driving. What does everyone do with their dogs in the backseat?

Train him to stay in the backseat or where you want him to sit. It may take a few days with a hour here and there but it is not any different than any other of training. I worry about safety, but until they start testing with pet crash dummies, I guess all I can do is worry.

I have 2 dogs and i put the load flat floors down and seats up and when they try and stand up on the console i tap the brakes and they smack there heads on in and lay back down in the back. ;D works every time.

Southshore the one from petsmart is the one I bought. My boxer is 100lbs also and within two days he had the zipper broke for the front two halfs so it cant be used as a hammock anymore. Boxers are some big babys. LOL

Southshore.. you have a nice dog.

I am buying a house pretty soon and want to buy a boxer or a german shepard.

Not sure which dog to go with?

Ive had german shepards my whole life. I cant imagine having any other type of dog. both of ours are mixed now but when we finally get our new house in a few years im getting a pure breed.

They love the snow. and theyre starting to get really good at riding in the truck. our male loves staring out the windows. ;D

;) Shock therapy. ;D make them stay back there. push them back and tell um no everytime they wanna get up on the console. or like me, use the brakes a little. they learn fast that way. :D

04hemi09, our male came from a pet shop which is actually my wifes dog (Bear). and mine (Rogue) we got from a adoption place about 50 miles from here. she was abandoned in a store parking lot when she was a puppy.

My uncle has a pure breed GS thats 6 years old now and back when they got him they paid $2500 and he already was registered and had all the AKC papers.
Hes not doing very well though. has seizures alot. He even has the Full 4 name german style name, Ivan Micheal-George Lambrecht.

06NIGHTRUNNER.. where did you buy your dog?

Also, about how much do you think a full breed german shepard may cost?

thank you. he stays in the bed when its a short trip on or once im on the beach. I don't feel safe with him back there too much.

the cover i got from petsmart was not a hammock and did not have zippers or anything. its like the one in the link. When I got a boxer i though he would be a little smaller, its my fault for not asking to see the parents. hes huge but a great dog! he looks mean and sounds mean but hes really a big baby.

South Shore does yours act like he is a 5 lb. lap dog?

the one I bought yeah wasnt like the one you posted. It was a seat cover and then it attached to the back of the headrest of the front seat so if the dog couldnt fall on the floor. I may look into getting just a normal seat cover and then a selt belt harness system. South Shore on the one you posted did you go with the large model?

he is not much of a lap down in the truck, he just looks out the window or sleeps. at home he is like velco. he has to be in the room that i am in, it could be on the bed or on the couch but in the same room. the only problem is that if your on the couch watching a movie and he wants to come up he will pretty much sit on you if your where he wants to be, or he'll moan and bark until you move.

yeah we need the 60" models for the back seats.

I have the load flat doors down and the seats up and I put an old quilt for him to lay on. As mentioned above if he decided to get curious a little tap of the break or hard acceleration and he learns his lesson. This is generally how he lays with his head on the center console. He's half black lab and half golden retriever. Looks 90% like a lab and acts 90% like a Golden. Doesn't really shed at all either.

ive been trying to find a way to keep my dog in the back seat too. but my dad let him jump from the front to the back for 2 years in his truck so now when i take him anywhere hes such a pita. right now im just putting the middle seat up and keeping my arm up or else he will still jump it. he is a siberian husky x gs. only 53lbs.

I used to make my American Bulldog ride in the bed when I lived in Cali, but now up here in Niagara Falls its too cold so I put the fold flat floors down, they are carpeted, much better then the steel on my 04. Sometimes I put the center consol up if I need to leave him in the truck alone for a few minutes, he is preety good about staying in the back. If I roll the window down, he sticks his head out while I freeze my but off, he gets queezy if it gets too warm in the truck with no fresh air.

If you have a bed or blanket or something your dog sleeps on, you might try putting that in the back seat so he knows that is "his area" to lay down.

I always thought that was what the bed was for. No animals in the cab of my truck

mine usually sits in the middle front seat with me or i put the load flat floors down and seats up in the back and he lays down. Just needs some training and they will stay back there
