Bad News

Well, folks, I went home for the weekend and had my neighbor/mechanic (Ryan) check out the rotors for me. Turns out, you were right gunnut. The guy who did my balljoints was evidently in a rush... he put the pin that mounts the caliper in at an angle, which then stripped the pin, causing it to be loose and the brake to drag, tearing up the rotor and causing the squeal. I was just pissed about having to pay for new rotors, but Ryan was pissed because the guy also put me in danger... Ryan said that as loose as it was, I could've lost my brakes at any moment. And here's the best part -- not only did the pin get stripped, but where the pin screws into (I think it's called the knuckle? I'm not sure so please let me know what it's called if y'all know what I'm talking about) as well. Ryan tried tapping it, but it didn't help much. He thinks I probably need a whole new one, which I would have to get from the dealer and would probably cost a lot of money. :bawl: And the problem with the guy who did my ball joints is that he's my friend's brother, so I hate to just flat out tell him he screwed up my truck because I don't want to offend my friend. So I thought if I played dumb and just mentioned some of the things my mechanic had said he would just own up to it, but instead he said that just didn't make sense. Does anyone have any thoughts on any of this? I can tell you one thing for sure... that guy is never going to touch my truck again! :VHOT:

Two shops looked at the brakes after the guy did your Balljoints and you were complaining about noise and neither saw you calipers were loose?I find that hard to believe, they should have definately noticed if they were as bad as your neighbour said..

That may have had to do with the fact that I put about 400 miles on the truck after the two shops told me I needed new rotors. I had a family emergency and had to drive home from school... so maybe it wasn't that loose when the shops looked at it but all the extra driving made it worse? But I watched my neighbor as he was working and he showed me how loose it was. So I felt really stupid for having driven that far without having had the rotors taken care of first. But that's the story of my life, I guess. :(
