I just bought a single crankshaft pulley for my truck from hughesengines.com. You don't want to buy the whole set that comes with the alternator pulley because your alternator wont charge at idle, so just leave the stock one on. You can't always trust that cheap junk ebay sometimes has to offer either. If you just buy this single pulley it is perfect, and a lot cheaper with it only being $36.95 plus shipping. I noticed a difference in performance and gas mileage. You will have to purchase a shorter belt to compensate for the pulley size but other than that you should have no trouble doing this simple mod. Hope this helped!

thanks. what belt number are you using?

Its a Gates K070950. I work at Oreilly's so I just looked up the size I needed by the book and it was the closest match I could order from our warehouse. So I would go to your local Oreillys or whatever store you have and give them that part number to look up.

I have the three piece pulley set: crankshaft, water pump, and alternator. I would stay away from the alternator pulley unless you want to install an optima or die hard platinum battery. I wish I would have just done the crank pulley but I got a really good deal on the set of three.

i could use help on a decision!
opinions are welcome.
so the crank pulley becomes down sized. the crank becomes about the size of the OE ps pulley . this slows down the belt. slowing down the power steering also- effectively lessoning the hydraulic pressure on the pump. makes it harder to steer/ rougher on the intermediate shaft. pulley is easyer to rotate with a large diameter.
C.A.T. sent a new smaller power steering pulley. this will speed up the pump. create more drag on the belt. it "may" correct the assisted power to steer.
i am going to 33" tires so
i have heard of a few just using the crank pulley alone with good results.
?should i just go ahead and use the ps pulley?

i think the power steering pulley would be a good idea. helps things last longer.

ya! the girl drives the truck occasionaly too. i think the truck might become hard to steer, like back in the day!
that wouldn't be a bad thing on a 2wd 1/4 mile truck- straight- hard to steer- though i'm going to big tires, in the very near future.
guess i'm going to need 2 sizes smaller on the belt.
and how hard is it to get the ps pulley off? think i need a shop 30 ton press??

Steering and the A/C are fine with the three piece set that I have, it's just the voltage output that leaves a little to be desired. I know on some of the newer pulley sets the alternator pulley is smaller so it increases output.

do you know what the volt reading now is.
just idling= ?
all acessories on idling= ?
mine reads 14v
13.89v
i was told that any lower than 13.5 is bad for the electronics

there is lots of places online that sells optional alternator pulleys also. dc power is a good one. they have many options for them.

My voltage at idle.

cant go by the gauge. you need a volt meter. put it on the alt hot and on the battery ground and take readings. if the accessorys are on and the volteage is lower than 13.5 you need to up the ampreage on the alt. time for an upgrade!

I've had my underdrive crank pulley on for about a year, never had a charging problem. My head lights do dim a tad at idle my idles dropped for my cam to 600 rpm. You put a bigger Alt on your truck didn't you Spun360? I run a red Optima battery.

i put a 200amp alt in a year ago. was geting ready for the ele fans and the underdrive pulley kit.
some have reported that a belt is not possible in 7 rib for the underdrives. i could understand that! more selection in the 6 rib version.
this could get confusing! i need a 94.0" for the underdrive kit, to route it CORRECTLY. i could have that belt in a 6 rib version only. the 7s jump from 95.0" down to 92.3". im inbetween sizes.
so, i routed the belt diff than the diagram. i run from the crank on the right to the power steering. on the left the belt runs from the crank to water pump to tensioner! i'm running the 88.5" belt. have no problems. auto parts store says the ps pump may slip since the angles are less severe around the pulley. travel around the ps pulley is just alittle less. so far so good, and a 7rib. i think "dodgepickup" had this trouble.
my charging amps are just fine and i have so drop outs in power when the accessories come on. this was not planed out by the pulley manufacterer and is not a typical install. PITA!

routing the belt properly i was between sizes. i had both the 95" and the 92.3" in hand. one was too long the other was just short.
routing it this way has worked so far. 88.5".. i'm just concerned about the ps pump slippin. no signs of that!

i think dc or mechman makes different stages of alternator pulleys. i know i have seen them and was looking into one myself.
