Toyo M/T on a diesel?

I am in need of fixing my terrible death wobble problem. I am thinking that putting some good E rated tires on my truck along with an alignment will help big time. What kind of mileage are you guys getting on a set of Toyo Open Country M/T's. I have heard people say between 40k and 70K. That seems a little too good to be true. Are they right?

Every diesel I see with these tires, which is a lot, the tread looks half worn down. I don't know the mileage but newer trucks with worn tires leads me to believe they aren't wearing all that well.

They're supposed to have some of the best tread wear in the industry. BFG also has great treadwear, but you see more trucks with death wobble and BFGs.

i hear the toyos are good. an e rated tire has a good solid sidewall to help with the weight of the engine....but have you found out why you have death wobble? is it caused by tires? could you swap front to rear, try diff air pressures first?

My buddy has a set on his F350. 37x13.5, just like mine. He has about 40K on these tires, and he should have replaced them months ago.

These are soft tires. I guess that's why they are so quiet as compared to other mud tires. Mine are new, so I can't comment on how they are wearing on my truck.

sir, i just read your signature and it says you have a 2.5" leveling kit. some trucks are more sensative then others, not sure why, but did you have the death wobble before the lift? did you have the lift on and diff tires and experience the death wobble? or did you do the lift and tires at the same time and then get the death wobble. here are some things i would try

1) swap out some stock wheels (tire and rim) with someone else for a ride and see if the death wobble is gone, if it is....get new tires

2) have you had a proper alignment since the leveling kit? if not, your caster could be off setting a number of other settings off...again, some trucks are finicky.

3) i know its only 2.5 inches of lift, but how is the relation of the track bar with the steering drag link? are they pretty much parallel for the most part?

4) lastly....check the bolts on the track bar. my track bar from the factory was bad, so they tell me. that track bar needs to be bolted down like you had a breaker bar with an elephant sittin on the end of it. if its bad or lose since you are running coils upfront and not leaf springs your truck can oscilate side to side causing death wobble?

is it death wobble or bump steer?

Well, I have had the same set-up on my truck for the last two years. And for all that time, I have been living in eastern oregon. Only experienced death wobble once and that was after I left Les Schwab and they had put 55 psi in my tires. I dropped the pressure in my 315 BFG a/t's down to 42 and It was fine until I got back to California. Where there are more potholes and cracks on the highways than there are people in this great state. So, the cause is probably that I have never had it aligned, the steering damper is stock and probably on it's way out. I may even have some wear on some steering components. But Above all I suspect the soft sidewall D rated BFG's and rough roads to be the main culprit. I am going to align it first, and have the tire shop check all the suspension components, then maybe try more air pressure. If the problem isn't the tires, I could probably get another 10,000 out of them.

I’m a big fan of BFG tires. I’ve been running them on my trucks and Jeeps for years. Normally I will see around 40k, maybe a little more out of them. My tires seem to ware a little more in the front than any thing, probably b/c of the added weight.

I may not have the CTD< but I do have the extra weight of my Cow Catcher bumper, it weighs 350lbs. I have the Toyo, and have between 15 and 20K at least on them and they barely look worn at all. My biggest suggestion though is getting balance beads for the tires, I got them and they have changed the way the truck handles alot. I have 10oz in each tire, and got them from http://innovativebalancing.com

ding ding ding ding ....... we have a winner.

99% of the people I know that performed a front leveling kit install generally induce their own death wobble.

Does anybody make a drop bracket for the track bar. Or is it better to go with an adjustable track bar?

Maybe if you don't have them installed by someone who knows what their doing. Every truck I've seen who had death wobble with spacers got rid of it by replacing worn parts. Most of the people I know including myself ran the spacers with no death wobble whatsoever. What's your excuse for the stock trucks that have got the death wobble too?

Basically, the circumstances that cause death wobble can be worsened by spacers, but rarely does taking them out get rid of the DW.

there are 3 trucks at my local dealership getting a fix on death wooble. 1 of them has BFG MTs35x12.5r17 and the other 2 have BFG AT 315x70r17 all on STOCK suspension

I have around 10k on mine and they look brand new.

The Toyos MTs are my second set of MT tires on this truck, I previously had BFG Mts, they definitely where smoother offroading because of the softer sidewall, but the overal ldriving and traction is 100% better on the Toyos specially when wet.

I have 2 other trucks @ my farm, they both have BFG MTs and will probably always have, but they are 1/2 ton trucks, I think with my CTD and agresive driving I do on and offroad, a LOAD E range tire is mandatory, specially for towing.

Adjustable track bar is the only way to go IMO.

OK, new here, what the heck is "death wobble"? I want to put a 2" leveling kit on my new Ram, but this death wobble talk is alarming. Anyone?

Death Wobble, is what you feel when driving the truck. It feel slike someone is standing on the running boards, or side of your truck shaking it as hard as they can while you are driving. the only way to get it to stop once it starts is to slow down, almost to a complete stop sometimes. I know when my truck had it real bad, mine was from a bad tire, if it started the "death Wobble" I would slow down, and I know other people in other vehicles could see the truck shake too.

It also seems to happen, or at least for mine, when ever I hit a bump with one tire, or hit a bumper first with one tire then the other, but it wouldn't do it unless I was going over 40MPH. Even with my bad tire, it had a big chunk out of the side where I ran over a nissan 300zx, if I had enough PSI in it, it would stop altogether.

Toyo M/t

I have a Ram 2500 Diesel 4x4 quad cab I have Kore chase suspension system with Toyo M/T. No Death wobble. Love the setup. As of now I have about 14,000 miles on the toyo's I figured they should last about 45,000 miles.

it depends on what causes the DW. bad tires, worn ball joints and links, bad traction bar, a bad suspension lift kit, loose components and or any combination.

i have an 03 ram, i currently run the toyo 37x13.50R20, i got 50 k out of my first set, and im on my second set, i highly reccommend them as for a good ride and good grip off road, i did alot of highway travel on the first set, and they held up so much better than the wrangler mt/r, tho they are one of the softest mud tires out there...but alas my days with the hemi are numbered....i cant wait for my 08 to get here with the 6.7

I just got my 40" Toyo's on today. We'll see how they do. They are a little stiffer than my old 40" MTR's, but don't give any shimmy whatsoever. :rck:

I barely got 50 miles on them, so we'll see.
