sub wattage question

im looking for an amp to power 2 Type R 2 ohm 10" subs. ok so theyre rated at 500 RMS and 1500 MAX each. so when im looking for an amp, what wattage should i be looking for on the amp? this is what the alpine MRD-M1005 says:

# Number of Channels: 1 - Mono
# RMS Power (4 ohms): 500 watts x 1 chan.
# RMS Power (2 ohms): 1000 watts x 1 chan.

does that 1000 watts x 1 channel on the amp mean it will spread that 1000 watts over both the subs making it 500 watts each or what. is this the kind of wattage the the subs can handle? im just a little confused as to what kinda wattage specs i should be looking for.

I'd get a 1000 watt 2 channel amp.

1000 watts x 1 channel means that 1000 watts of power can be had out of the amp if you use a 2 ohm load.

There may be a way to wire both subs to one channel on a one channel amp but I don't think so. It's going to create a 1 ohm load. You'll have to check to see if your subs are 1 ohm stable.

After a little research it looks like you can run them in Series/Parallel. Not in series, not in parallel, but Series/Parallel.

Look at the bottom picture on this link

IT should make 2 2ohm speakers push a 2ohm load.

If I were you, I would buy a two channel amp that runs each channel at anywhere from 300-500 watts rms. Some people run one channel amps with two subs, and two channel amps bridged into one sub, but with two subs I would always run a two channel amp because the wattage load is more even and doesnt power surge as much. The most imprtant thing is to match up the ohm load of the subs with the correct ohm load of the amp. Are the subs dvc? And at what ohms do the subs handle 500 watts rms?

I just installed the same subs into a Fox Box. 2 Type-R 2ohm subs. I bought the Alpine M605. Its plenty of power to push the subs. 600Watts RMS @ 2ohms. Trust me you dont need a 1000 watts to push the subs, they are crazy loud with the 600.

When you buy an amp buy one that is 2ohm stable and wire your subs like this:

If you wire them this way you only use one terminal. So all the wires would just go to the passenger side terminal on the fox box. I just installed the other one and left it empty.
