i've finally got enough to do it! in the very near future (hopefully within a week) I'm going to start rebuilding my 225 Slant 6. I found a kit for $415 online, it comes with "Pistons, Rings, Gaskets, Cam Bearings, Rod Bearings, Main Bearings, Oil Pump, Freeze Plugs, Camshaft, Lifters, Pre-lube, and Timing Set". I found it on THISsite. I haven't ordered the parts yet... was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this parts company or if it even exists anymore lol. Along with the rebuild i'll be doing a few things to the transmission, adding a 2barrel carb from a 318 engine, cleaning and repainting the motor of course, weather stripping, and a few other things. I'll be doing a new paint job later on (hopefully) but for now i'm just painting the engine parts, using the color it used to be, i think i'll paint the valve cover silver though haha. I'll be posting quite a few pics in the process.

why am i doing this? the engine just doesn't run like it used to, pretty much everything that can leak oil does lol, it burns oil like crazy, and some black specs come out of the exhaust all the time when it starts, and the gas mileage is terrible. the guy that's helping me with this thinks the piston rings are shot along with oil valve seals (i think thats what they're called?) oh it goes through 1qt of oil about every 80 miles lol (and $20 in gas at about $2.50 a gal)

well wish me luck!

now on to building my new computer haha (i know more about comps than i do cars, so naturally i'd do that first lol) I love tax refund day haha

sorry i haven't posted in so long but...

i've got some bad news for the poor slant 6 :(

the head is cracked in a few places :bawl:

However, someone has a slant6 they rebuilt a couple years ago that they're selling for $250 so i think i'm gonna do that... now to sell some stuff.

I'll try to get some pics soon

i think it was like that the whole time i've had the truck... i've always had to put oil in it at least once every couple weeks. (and like, a quart or 2) and replace spark plugs often. i'm sure i could put it back together and it still run but i'm sure i'd be better off replacing it... unless someone could "sleeve" the cylender walls or w/e its called for less than $250 (cost of another motor). don't think that'd fix the problem for good though (or would it)? and what's the normal temp of the engine normally? it usually ran at about 190F. there was one time it got off the scale but that was very brief. and other times when it got around 220-240 due to a hole in a hose (at highway speeds the pressure was high enough it forced coolant out the hole), which i fixed.

there's 3 cracks, 2 are "hair line" and not as long, one is maybe the thickness of paper.

btw the thickest one is between the spots where the 2 worst looking sparkplugs would be when i change them and the other 2 cracks are where the "in between" (not as bad as the worst, but not as good as the better ones, in the mid. somewhere) looking sparkplugs would be so i think this has been a problem for a while and not just seals.

i recall once that when we took off the manifolds one of the studs was a reg. bolt. when we took this out coolant poured out of the hole in the block... guessing it had something to do with a crack in the head?

oh we also found a round looking dome like washer INSIDE the block, when it should have been up near the lifters (i think). of course it was smashed into 3 or 4 pieces. i think someone has tried to work in the engine before... and messed up somewhere

we also had to cut the timing chain just to get the harmonic balance off, a puller (3 diff ones) just wouldn't do it.

sooo, with all of that considered... i guess that explains my 11mpg and the engine "having its moments" with power, and after saying that... i'm surprised how well it did run with all those problems... i'm sure it would still at least run if i put it back together but not at its best and probably not for too much longer

also would explain the "knocking"...probably just the reg. ol sound of the piston seeping through the bigger crack that normally isn't heard as much when there is no crack?

they almost run without oil... the '85 D250 that i sold my neighbor went a few miles without oil before he blew it up. but he beat the hell out of it.
