hey guys,
i need some advice/opinions on rims. i have/had a GT mustang with 18" chrome rims...always caught people starin at me. now i got a D and i love it, but im sick of the stock look, and seeing MOMS drivin around in stock D's. Now im going for the offroad D, not the street. So i need to find a rims that will fit the bigger tires, but still look nice and shinny on the road. im not a serious offroader cuz theres not a lot of places to go around me. so i need a rim that will suit both street and offroad. so what do you guys think? when you see a D, what makes it "have the look"? lol
Heres some ideas:
im not set on only these three..but im giving you an idea

Go with the Eagle 186, I like it the best and it looks the most different than stock.

but heres the part that gets me mad... most rims i can find for the D, are not chrome... they are either polished or super finish. i like them the best too...but im afraid after i wash them like 50 times...they wont be as shinny... uhggg
see these two D's are my favorite, but yet have completly different rims...

Well, companies make polishes for different wheel metals. I have just plain cast aluminum on my truck, nothing special. Chrome, IMO, are too much work. True chrome will require polishing often to keep its shine, otherwise it will pit and rust. I prefer Aluminum as they won't rust and are easier to maintain, even if they will lose some of their shine.

Why not get the eagle series 101? I ordered from a tire company the 186's, but someone messed up and sent the 101's and that's how I ended up with what I got. Wasn't sure how it would look, but I didn't want to wait any longer. I happy with my new rims. The 101's actually cost more ($150 per rim) than the 186's ($74 per rim), but the company gave it to me at the same price.

Personally I like 186's best out of those. You are correct that polished would be a bad choice in NY. Winter salt will destroy the finish. Also check with the OEM on the chrome. Unprotected chrome will pit from salt. It is not going to instantly destroy it bit the pits will form in the corners of the spokes on the outer fim where salt and contaminates concentrate. Chrom rims that come stock on cars is clear coated to protect it. That is one option for you if you want polished, have them clear painted or powder coated. Call them on the super finish and verify what that is.

well either way i go, chrome, or polished, ill loose shine no matter what. so far it looks like the eagle 186 is the number one pick. and i found them for about $300 shipped to my house. these rims would look more of a deep dish rims if i got the 15x10. i would be using 12.5 " tires...so the 15x8 and 15x10 both will work. what is your opinion on the size... do you like to see the deep dish? or see more of the face of the rim?

you guys like the american racing baja, 16" rims?
this setup looks nice... and i will have to body lift and T/S too... so it would look something like this... i have good tires, 305/70/16 i can use if i go the 16"s... its a tough choice :VHOT:

Deerango20,
I have "Baja" wheels on my truck (16x8 wheels with 265/70/16 tires).

Obviously I like the look. The wheels I got are polished aluminum, but I saw on the American Racing web site recently that the Baja wheel is now available in a chrome finish which wasn't available when I got my wheels a few years ago.
