New Rumble Bee Owner

Hi All,

I just bought an '04 Yellow Rumble Bee (#1332) from the original owner. It has 13.5k miles on it and looks brand new. The only thing done to the truck performance wise is the guy took the stock muffler out and put a piece of pipe in it's place. It sounds nice.

He also had a brand new (still in the box) K&N air filter set up he included that he said cost close to $300. I will install it over the Christmas break. There are no other mods done to the drive train.

So, what would be the next item that will increase HP and MPG? The truck won't be a daily beater, but I also don't need to get too crazy with the mods. I was thinking of getting throttle body spacer and then maybe a Super Chip. I've been trying to read as much as I can about the chip and I'm a little confused about the difference between a chip and a tuner.

I also saw on here something called a power wire that increases power and MPG. Unfortunately, this is the ONLY site I have found that mentions this device, so I ask...is it worth the $40?

Once I figure out how to post pictures I will.

Thanks,

Marty :gr_patrio

welcome to the online world, sounds like an awesome truck....
1) forget the spacer, its useless
2) superchips is the company who makes a flashpaq tuner (#3815) for the hemi. so it is a tuner, no actual chip
3)the Powerwire is on www.airram.com, check it out there

First off, Welcome to DodgeTalk!!

Now, the Superchips tuner is probably the best bang for buck mod you can buy for these trucks. It will show noticable power increases and firmer shifts as well. I highly recommend this mod. After that, I would get a set of Longtube headers to compliment your air intake and straight pipe...Pacesetters are the best bang for buck in this category. And both the Superchips, Pacesetter Longtubes, and Powerwire can be bought from www.airram.com. He offers some of the best pricing and service around. Good luck with the new truck and just let us know if you need anything else!!

Welcome

You are going to definitely want to get the Superchips flashpaq tuner. It increases your performance and works well with other Mods.

You may also want to check out this web site for more information and ideas for your Rumble Bee: www.rumblebee.org

Good luck and Happy Modding

Thanks for the warm invite and information.

As for upgrades...Superchip programer first and then...throttle body spacer or a power wire? I appreciate the word on the headers, but I would just end up putting a quiet exhaust on to muffler the sound. I like a little rumble, but my days of screaming down the highway are long gone. I'm looking for mods that I can easily do and undo and headers isn't in that catagory for me right now.

I was also looking at dropping the rear about 2" so it'll sit more even. I'm afraid if I do the 4/2" drop I would lose what little ride the truck currently has. I'm not into bone shaking ride...I'm getting old!!! lol

Have a great day and Merry Christmas!

Oh...how do I set up a gallery so I can also share my pictures?

I believe I read some where that if you have the superchips the powerwire doesn't really do anything..Like the others have said the throttle body spacer won't do anything for you at all its just a good paperwieght...You can get a 2-4 drop done and if you set it up right you won't notice anything but a better ride you'll have tons of people recommend you talk to slammed1 about a drop he's a great guy to work with and knows his stuff.. The main reason I want to say don't get drop shackles is because there are alot of people on here who thought they would be happy with just 2" drop shackles me included then after awhile I couldn't handle it any more and did the 2-4 drop.. :D BTW my daytona is #1133 were pretty close to the same number.

Thanks for all the responses and input. I installed the K&N air filter this morning (couldn't wait for the weekend) and even though I have only owned the truck for a few days, I noticed a difference in throttle response. I haven't noticed a change in sound though under throttle (it sounded fine before).

Not to beat a dead horse...but I would like more input on the throttle body spacer (links supporting or disproving). I showed the truck to a friend of mine yesterday and the first thing he said was "you got to install a TBS." I asked him why and he mentioned power and MPG. He said he had one on his old Dodge truck and he swears by it. Now I don't mean to step on any toes, but, my theory is; if it does not work, I think we would tend to trick ourselves into thinking it did so we can justify the expense and not feel we wasted our money.

Any way...I called one of the local speed shops and asked about the SuperChip programmer. The guy said he sells them, but recommended another brand (Techsomething). He said it was a better unit. I asked him if there were any programmers on the market that allowed "on the fly" programming like some of the BMWs and MB offers. He said there is a new product coming out next month that will run around $625. Has anyone heard of this yet?

Later,

Marty

Oh yeah...I still would like directions on setting up a gallery so I can share some pictures. I would also like to select an avitar...

Superchips will really wake it up. There are others like Hypertech (probably the one the guy was talking about) and a soon to be released Bully Dog unit. You'll start all kind of arguements if you ask which one is the best.

As for the TSB, save your money. There are a lot of threads on here about the fact that they do nothing on a port injected engine. They only worked on older throttle body injection engines because the air AND FUEL had a longer straighter path to follow. On our trucks, the fuel isn't added until the air enters the cylinder.

Thanks for the opinions. TexasAxMan...thanks for explaining why the TBS is not a mod worth doing. It makes sense now....so much to learn, so little brain power left! lol
