Offroad, I always calculate for 6mpg offroad (worse case scenario) and plan my fuel accordingly and then add 10%. This way you are covered in case of an emergency or someone else is in trouble.

I carry a jerry can of gas, diesel, kerosene and 2 water. Why the overkill? I've yet to go on a trip where I haven't used all 5 cans. Helping that stranded Jeep that's full of cold beer does have its rewards

I usually only carry about 11 gallons of water and that's more than enough for me on a 3 day trip. Your water usage will vary depending on if your washing dishes, yourself or water balloon fights. 3 gallons per person per day if your living the life of luxury. If your roughing it, 2 gallons per person per day should suffice.

As for food, how hungry are yall gonna be? For anything more than a day, I plan a menu out that I try to follow to make sure I buy enough. I have MRE's that I pack out as well for those "just in case" moments.

Another thing to consider is communication gear. At least have a CB on hand and ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS tell someone where you are going and what routes you might be taking. If you get lost and you can't get ahold of anyone, whatever info you gave beforehand is going to be your life line. If you have cell reception, be sure to check in with someone back home daily to say all is well.



All of this is just basic camping and expedition guidelines. Adapt them to what best fits your needs, equipment, skill level and terrain.

It has been about 15 years since I did this trip .At that time I didn't even need 4 wheel drive. Any stock truck would be fine. 2 days should be enough time . I think it is about 150 miles from river to I-15.

 

Keep us posted on the trip! need pics! i want to go out to the moab real bad with the truck. would love to do some small climbs and high speed sand runs.
