Inside exhaust resonator

I recently had a 18" Magnaflow muffler installed and have been contemplating removing the resonator. Well, I just cut off the stock tail pipe and had a look inside the resonator. It's straight through and only has about a two inch section of louvers inside so from a performance stand point it's not restrictive. I really can't believe it does anything at all for sound deadening having such a small louvered area. I may just leave it and put on a nice stainless tip. The second pic is metal shaving I found inside the resonator. I'm guessing it's just stainless steel packing from the Magnaflow.

When I was looking at exhaust upgrades I wanted something with more flow and not overly loud. The 18" Magnaflow gave me that and since the stock resonator was straight through and didn't hinder flow I finally decided to keep it on. I added a stainless tip this morning. My cousin welded a 2.5" id/od adapter to the tip and I used a stainless clamp to secure it to the resonator, (just in case I change my mind down the road.)

I had to trim the bumper cover a little with the dremel due to the angle coming out of the resonator.
