It's been covered but my question is who has it? my 2500 and my fathers 2500 are both tick free, yet my brothers 1500 ticks. Do the magnums and chargers also have the tick? I'll start a poll to see who has the tick and and what application has the greatest amount.

Had an 03 1500 hemi and it ticked and broke. I have an 04 1500 hemi and no tick runs great.

Not to confuse the infamous Hemi Tick with other assorted valvetrain noises that go away when the engine is warmed up -- the Hemi Tick, at least on my truck, is not so much a "tick" sound as it is a "swish-swish-swish" sound. Doesn't matter whether it's hot or cold, summer or winter, it makes the noise at idle.

Mine has acquired this attribute as well. But even with my exhaust and Homebrew intake it doesnt seem all that loud. I was waiting to pick up my daughter from school the other day and this lady parked next to me in a Hemi QC. That thing was frickin loud, the tick was ridiculous. At least mine isnt anywhere near that!

Are you sure it was a hemi next to you? Not a CTD LOL just kidding.

I wish it was, then I wouldn't have to cringe. Mine does it the loudest at startup I notice. Almost more of a swooshing air sound, as opposed to a manifold leak type of sound. Still sucks though, I don't like it.

37k on a 2004 hemi 4x4.
I notice just a faint tick at idle....much like my old 89 5.0 Mustang has always had (fuel injector tick) and does to this day, at 210,000 miles.
However, what I'm much more concerned about the sound that's a dead ringer for a header leak, coming from the passenger side underhood. Hadn't really noticed it until I put the CAI on.
Is this the supposed EGR noise I've read about? OR do these things have a history of header tick? Happens under load.
Thanks

Mine has pretty much had it since the day I bought it('05 5.7L w/ 1060 miles so far), but I thought it was what the Hemispherical engine sounded like. Now that I've found my way to this site, I know what it is but there's not much I can do about it.

Doesn't seem to be hurting anything performance wise, and it only happes at idle when it's cold.

Oops, I added my 300C to the poll without realizing you only wanted it IF it had the tick. It doesn't.
My bad.

I have thought about putting a new poll up like this one but with the addition of what fuel people are using. I have an 04 HEMI with just over 43000 KM (±27000 miles) on it and have never heard the tick, but I always run 89 octane (from Esso (Canadian)) like the manual says. Are those that have the infamous Hemi tick running 87 Octane or buying their gas at a cheap no name gas station?

Another factor might be how you drive your truck? I drive mine like a Ferrari! Or how many people drive your truck, the truck learns the drivers habits and adapts to the driving style, if two or more people were driving the truck maybe the computer gets confused? I am the sole driver of my truck 99.9% of the time.

Just my 0.02 cents ....

I had an 03 with the tick and I always used 89 or 91 Conoco fuel. This is the same fuel as Phillips66 or 76. Name brands. Also use Castrol syntec in them. It broke a valve spring at 18000 miles. I now have an 04 and use the same fuel and oil no tick.

The "tick" is usually what you hear with solid lifters. I know the new multiple displacement hemi uses hydraulic lifters. It may be just the injector solenoids that you are hearing.

very well could be injector solenoids. Then again it's the hemi tick=lifters

Tick Tock Tick Tock

I have a 03' 1500 Hemi 5.7 and it has ticked since I bought it with 21,000 miles on it and noticed it a few days latter. Now at 41,000 miles I had a valve spring bust and I thought that was the problem, new valve spring same tick tick at long idle. Not happy but it's the nature of the beast I guess. My brothers 02' Chevy does the same thing but louder.
