Dodge Durango 2001-- help! Engine starts fine but can't drive- won't move easily at all; kind of feels like parking brake is on but it is not (I don't use it, have not); it feels like the wheels are being restricted some how, not sure? I don't know anything about "cars" but it has been at a mechanics and they can't figure out what is wrong with it. So, just looking for some ideas.

I don't know why (I don't agree with it) but they all have seemed to focus on the transmission, and like I said, I really don't think that's the problem at all.... engine starts and runs fine (I had transmissions go out on two cars in the past, and this does not feel or act like those at all! And I have not had any signs of transmission troubles before this!).

I have only had this vehicle for about a month but I know the previous owner had the transmission rebuilt or replaced, and it was by the 'dealer'. But, no one is listening to me...I think this is important and no one will listen: ...there was a whole lot of loose rust pieces that kept falling off of the vehicle on each side underneath all 4 doors, and while I was washing the vehicle last weekend, just before all of this trouble, I was spraying with high water pressure from the hose, all those areas of rust to get all the loose rust pieces off the vehicle. I did spray closely and maybe up and into the holes of the sides and the water was going up and under the vehicle. Then I took it to a car wash shortly after, because what I was trying to wash just wasn’t looking very good, so I did the most deluxe wash where it supposedly sprays and cleans underneath. There is a lot of rust underneath as well.

So, I wonder if any of what I did, and the fact that there is a ton of rust underneath as well--- could any of that have anything to do with why it went out the next day or so, or why it would not drive, or it was extremely hard to drive? I would push on the gas and it just would not move, unless I gave it a lot of gas, and then it would move slowly and very hard, like the brakes were all on. I was afraid to keep trying to drive the vehicle for fear I would do more serious damage by doing that. I can tell you right after the car wash, there was some sort of strange noise, which I thought, was coming from the front tires/wheels? I thought it was as if something was caught someplace in the wheels or tires and just needed to work it’s way out; but I really don’t know enough about all this stuff to know if that was anything serious or not, but I do know it wouldn’t drive the next day.

Thank you to anyone and all who can offer any good suggestions...that I can offer to those working on my car!

Does your D roll forward in neutral when it's pushed, or does it feel stuck as well?

I have a 2000 Dodge Durango SLT 2wd 5.9L and mine starts perfectly but wont move just like yours. I replaced the Neutral sensor switch and that didn't help. So I was told I need a new transmission. I'm trying to find one that is reasonable. Do you know what other vehicles would be compatible with my 46RE transmission.
Thanks

torque converter goes, it can wipe out the rest of the trans with the metal shavings

And what was the reason? Need to find out details before you do. If they know you know nothing about cars they may see a cash cow so to speak if they are not honest. Get a second-third opinion or take someone along who does know cars. First off do you have any check engine codes? That would be the first thing to check. Does it have correct amount of fluid in the trans(check level). Does the fluid look brown or smell burnt? Not sure about the Durangos but the check valve on the cooler line has been known to stick restricting flow back the trans. You or you mechanic can check for pressures in the different ports on the trans. This will tell you a lot about what is going on.
