electric cutout switch question

i am looking at switches i can order online, but before i consider this, i have a few questions..first..is the switch that comes with it, a decent looking switch? i really like the idea of having a little cool red cover over the switch, making it look like a crazy button or something lol. second, if i were to replace this switch, , besides it being three way (i would assume, on-off-on), what else does it have to be? and finally, would the swiwtch that COMES with the cutout, fit with a safty cover?

Maybe a dumb question, but why does the switch have to be a three way switch?

Because you have to hold the switch down (about 5 seconds) to open it up then it returns to the neutral position then hold it the opposite way to close it. It has to be this way becuase it not a simple flip of the switch and it opens. You basically open or close the cutout as much as you want to make the sound go from very tame to wild and anywhere in between.

I dont think those switches will work man. You will just have to use what comes with the kit. If you dont want it to be seen just hide it in the small storage compartment under you Heat and AC controls. Mine is about where my right knee sits on my dash under my steering wheel. hope this helps.

I don't think that's a 3-way switch which is why that wouldn't work...

As for switches that come with it... QTP has a toggle style... I'm not liking it. I'm trying to get with DMH which has a toggle and a rocker style to see if I can use theirs.

You know what I do...Open the cutout, remove the switch, and watch your neighbors cry when you wake them up at 7am

j/k...I dont wake up the neighbors, but I do leave it open all the time.

Since we're talking about them... how does your butterfly valve connect and open and close with the motor?

When I got mine and looking at it yesterday from DannyAngelo... the shaft was like a half moon... like something's supposed to be there to keep it together, but there wasn't anyhting. I ended up just taking it together as I tacked the screws on the buttefly as wel.

The plate that opens/closes is bolted to that half moon shaped rod. You made a smart move my tacking the plate on there because I have heard of a few guys losing screws here lately.

Yea, that was still there... I had read about it too which is why i did it. The main thing i was asking about is the shaft that sticks out of the motor and into the cutout to open/close the butterfly...

QTP I'd take a pic... but I don't have the base here to upload it.

Together as in mounted? I can't say for certain as I haven't seen one mounted... but you should. It's the shaft that sticks out of the motor itself to turn the butterfly.

Mine is completely round except where the plate mounts...other than that, it is completely round.

Hmmmm mine had a half moon shape... such as a post for a stereo knob is so the knob will only fit in one position. I'll try and get the base tomorrow to show it...

OK. I might just be looking at the wrong piece, but from what I can see, the only half moon shaped rod is where the plate that opens/closes mounts.

OK...There is a cylinder shaped part of the motor, and the rod comes out of that and through the end of the flange with the butterfly valve...Are you talking about the end of the rod at the outside of the butterfly valve, or the part that goes into the cylinder shaped motor??

he is talking about the rod that goes from one side of the opening to the other that attached to the motor. The shaft that the screws attach to. If you were to take it all apart and look down the shaft it would be shaped in a half moon like the audio control nob when you take the cover off.

If you dont get it....I give up im going to bed. haha

OK..so I would have to take the motor off to see that end...you said I didnt have to take it apart...Oh well. I have also been up since 5am yesterday morning, and I have to wake up in 4 hours for a dentist appointment. I'm on some hydrocodine for a horrible toothache right now, so if I make a post like this "glHWBFCLHGFLWBVFHFBVwdh;gf", then just realize that I am passed out on the keyboard.
