The ring around the ignition switch should glow...probably a burned out bulb. As far as the dome light, some are delayed, some slowly dim off, and some just shut off when you shut the door.

 

My dome always just shut right off once the door closed but the ring on the ignition should stay on to assist in placing the key in the hole correctly. =)

Can't tell you how many nights I was rescued by that magical light of ingenuity on Dodge's part... Lol

I spent a few hours last night reading all over the net on this and according to what I found Dodge quit making the light work in 99 or there abouts. So does anybody with a 2k model have the glowing ring around the keys. Guess the dome light is just suposed to turn off instantly when the doors closed so thanks on that for sure.

Seems pre 99 the halo light as Dodge calls it hooked to a brain box thing that did other things(dont remember what... long night). This box was discontinued or the place on it didnt work the light anymore. Either way the lead doesnt go anywhere anymore. The lights there but nothing hooked to it. The method most seem to use is to run a pair of wires from the lead on the halo ring to the dome lights wires in the pillar on the drivers side door switch. Yellow and something wire. I book marked it if I feel adventures enough to fix it one day. Also read that in 2002 or something onward the clear bezel that halo light shines thru was replaced with black plastic. STILL has the light bulb there just covered with black plastic. Wierd.
If someones got a 2k model and has a working halo please chime in and let me know if all this kewl stuff I read is full of it or not.
