What do you guys recommend as far as RIM type, size and TIRE size for a 02 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7L for a 1/8 mile drag?

Would running all for tires with the spare rims be a good idea?

And how are those tires gonna fit? Gotta take out wheel well ?

These are MT 295/45-17. Given it's a 4x4 they clear everything nice. My yellow truck is lowered 2/4 and i put 285/40-17 Nt555 on the back of it and they aren't too wide for the fender wells either.

Here's a pic with all four on. Haven't been to the track with these yet though. These should cure my traction issues at the track haha.
you don't wanna go too short with your 4.56 gears plus boost though. A 29 or 30 inch slick or d/r would maybe be better. My MT's are labeled as 28 but they are shorter than that.

What kind of rims are those?

What's a good rim to run?

Those are factory SS/t dodge truck wheels on my red one. They're 9in wide wheel vs the offroad alloy wheels, which are 8in wide. I lucked up on the sst ones at a swap meet at Bristol this year haha. They offroad ones are easier to find though, and I love how they look as well. But any 17 would do I'd say. Idk how wide the steel ones are though, I think some of those might only be 7in wide but I'm not sure haha.

Next season I'll be running a set of M&H 275/50R17s on a set of Cepek DC-2s. Running the 28" wheel to match the 3.92 gears, I'm hoping to be crossing the 1/4 mile at 5500+ rpm. I could downsize to the 26" and get off the line quicker, but I'll only have 1.5" clearance between my rocker panel and the ground, not worth the risk IMHO.

You can't go wrong with good ol trusty dodge 17 alloys of any type though lol.

I have a set of off road 17's with 26" M/T ET Streets, the tires are shot now so when I replace them I will go with a 28-30" tire. I feel the 26" is to short, even with 392's, they get me through my 2 best gears quick, then dump me into 3rd where the truck just falls flat. If I could get a 33" rim and tire combo that was under 50lbs a tire, I would be all over that. Then I would basicalliy have a two speed power glide and cross the traps at the very top of 2nd gear at 6800rpm. This is what I would run with the stock 20's, but at 90ish lbs a piece, they are too heavy and my times are only off by a tenth or two from the stock 20's to my dr's due to the horribe 3rd gear.

The only problem with the spare steel 17s is they're so narrow. I'd be looking for a set that's 9-10" wide to give you a nice contact patch and the tires typically last longer as there's more surface area to absorb heat, unless of course you do Johnny Force burnouts. I like the DC-2s because they're only a 25lb wheel, and coupled with the M&H 275/50R17 at 31lb it's a nice and light package.

I'm looking at different rims and don't know what "offset" means or what would fit my truck , can someone explain this to me? Sorry if it's a dumb question.

Also what width would you guys say be the minimum would be for the 1/8? 7.5 ok? Or does it need to be 8" or higher

Offset is the distance from the wheel's centerline to the hub mounting face. A positive offset is further towards the outside and a negative is closer to the inner rim. The width of the wheel needs to match the radial you're looking to buy, wider is typically better with radials, but it depends on what you want to use. A 9" wide is generally the limit for the fronts unless you have a high negative offset, but then you can start scrubbing the fender instead of the control arms.

Thanks, for my truck what offset am I looking for? And what's the min/max that will fit

With my 4.56s and 28" radials I cross the 1/8 at probably 4700 or so (not too sure) but either way it's about 1/3 of the way through third gear and my mph is about the same as when I had the stock 20's crossing at about redline in 2nd gear. So based off my comparison I would say 28" is about as good as it gets all around for 1/4 and 1/8. If there was a 30" radial I feel that would be ideal.

I run the 17" procomp 1098 (i think) these wheels are very light (bout 22lbs)..rotational mass makes a difference. Also run 28" Hoosiers as well...
