I had a stereo installed and now the battery goes dead if
I don't drive it for a few days. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Does the stereo play when the key is off?
Aftermarket stereos have a wire that's connected to the battery all the time to keep the station memory and the clock powered, if that circuit is drawing too much juice it could cause the battery to drain. Mr.Nobody has a valid question, did the truck work OK before the stereo install? If it did, you may have a defective stereo.

"did it do this before the stereo install??, could be allot of things, bad battery, alternator, regulator, under the hood light, even the stereo." -CHRIS

Is there an easy way to check each of these and track down the problem?

I would definitely take it back to where you had the stereo intalled and tell them what's going on. Sounds like it's their problem, not yours.

Okay, I notice that when I just turn the motor off and remove the key, the stereo goes off with it, ...seemingly automatically like most vehicles. However I have the option of turning the stereo off first using the off button, when I do this the stereo's digital display says, "Good bye" then goes off.

I'll try that for a while and see what happens, but is that the norm? Other people in newer vehicles don't have to do that. Is it because my truck is an older (1985) model?, or was the stereo actually installed incorrectly?

I mean the freakin new stereo probably had more wires sticking out of the back of it, than my entire truck has under the dash. Surely improvisions were taken.
