Is it just me, or is the stock system pretty cheezy?
I have 2005 Dakota Club and I can't seem to get the sound just right.
I've had other vehicles where the stock system sounds decent.

I'll most likely change the head unit and the speakers, but I was just curious as to other folks' opinion.

Later guys!

The lack of bass doesn't bother me. I generally listen to rock and metal, but when you put up the volume, it gets a little distorted. It's got settings for the bass, mid-range and treble, but it's hard to adjust them to my liking.
I'm not really into stereos like I am other things, but I know enough to know that it could probably sound better.

I like the Infinity sound system in my Laramie. The only thing I'm not happy with is the little vibrations I hear in the dash when a song does have some bass to it. I've tried to figure out what is causing this, and can't find it. It may be something as silly as stuff in my glovebox rattling. :dunno:

Ya I'll have to check my window sticker. My old mans got the infinity sound system in his Ram and its sounds awesome.

I've been waiting for a SoundBox review..... while I am sure the sound is great, do you miss the space in between the two rear seats that is taken up with this thing?

I do kinda wish I had known that the Infinity sound system would be replaced with Alpine speakers in the '06..........I might have waited (for that and the Inferno Red color alone). :)

Yes, I miss the space. Not so much for seating but for laying stuff across the width of the area. The Alpine was a great move for Dodge. I also think the QC platform should have had the option. It would have fit even better in a QC platform. The 10" sub is in perfect balance with the satellite Alpine speakers. There are nine speakers to the system. The sub box has an active crossover built in with two tweeters in the top of the sub box that face outwards to the doors, so there are four tweeters two mid-low speakers in the front doors and two mid-low speakers in the C pillars or back cab corners and with the sub, that’s nine speakers. I my less busy younger days I would have installed my own aftermarket system but with this being offered as factory, it works for me. Oh, by the way the translucent sub box has a selectable light organ. The box has a fluctuating green/blue light that makes the box glow and varies with intenisty with the bass notes. The switch also allows it to turn that feature off and the only light is the small Alpine SoundBox Logo in a cobalt blue.

Was bored so I was looking around Dodge's site and saw this as an option... hadn't even heard of it and thought it was pretty damn cool. Was also surprised it'd have the light feature with it...

I don't know, I have the basic sound and it sounds alright to me. I am by no means an audio expert, but I also really don't care, audio just adds weight in my opinion. I'd say the basic system was set up for people like me who a radio is just a radio to, as long as it has FM and a CD player, I'm happy.

I've got the Alpine sub and found it was rattling the little plastic door below the rear window between the seats, a balled up paper towel solved the problem.

I have the factory 6disc MP3 capable stock head unit, with the Infinity Amp and 6 speakers. I too was unhappy with the crispness of the speakers. I bought JL componants up front and coaxials in the rear and that really sharpened the sound for me. I since added a 10" sub that I keep on the floor behind the drivers seat and that really filled in the lows. I like that I kept the factory head, but it really sounds much better now.

So you added a sub to the factory Infinity system? Can you explain?

Thanks

I mounted some flush mount piezo teeters with my stock setup, and it woke it up ALOT...{flushed them in on the little triangle where the rearview mirrors are..}
I have since upgraded to 2 component sets and an amp..

I just ordered a 08 ext cab... and for some reason Dodge will not let you even choose the sound box option when ordering .. I talked to 2 different dealers and it is listed as an option but they could not order it or even get a price for it on the 08s.

After looking at all the other options they had (my gig and other sound upgrades) I decided not to worry about that and go ahead and get the truck

just wish it would not take so long to get a truck after its ordered ...(ordered on the 29th of Oct. and they said 3-7 weeks) but still no word at 3 weeks if its even ready to be built.

I upgraded my factory head unit from the single disc to the 6 disc system. For a factory system it sounds pretty good. It's not even close to my Ram, which had Kenwood speakers, head unit and 5 channel amp, plus a JL 10W3V2 sub. It was kick ass, but I'm still pretty happy with the stock unit in the Dak.
