In town I get 14mpg. On the highway(80% of my driving) I get 17-19 MPG. 30k miles on the clock of my '02 4.7L QC

I have a 2002 4x4 Quad Cab with the 5.9 and 3.92 axle ratio. The computer is telling me that i am getting 10.7 miles per gallon on average.

 

I must agree that 13-14 is a little low for a 2wd 4.7.
I have a 4x4 QC 2500 Hemi and I get 13 mpg with 70/30 city/highway driving. I knew I would get crap mpg but I still try anything to improve it

 

4X4 QC 5.9 - 11.9 in winter and 12.8 in summer. Huge gas hog but it is a big truck. Runs like a top!

I have a 360 and I get better mileage than youre getting. Weird!

How are you calculating your milege? I do it by hand AND with the comp. The comp is only a 1/2 a gallon off so not bad at all. I also reset it once a month. Also a really good way to get an accurate account of your hwy milege is to get up to speed on the hwy and set the cruise then reset your MPG-O-Meter. I bet it's higher then you think.

I reset the trip computer every other week when I fill up the tank. The results are pretty consistent. I have verified the results by hand in the past and found them to be off a little, but not much. hence, I said "12-13" in the above post. Mileage is considerably better when I do mostly highway driving though, as one would expect!

 

I average around 13-14 in town and 16-17 on the highway. Basically, the same truck as David but a little modded.

 

:jmad: its also the way you drive i guess........but then again who wants to drive a hemi nice and easy....

 

14.7 mpg combined city/highway driving. Hand calculated out to 14.6 mpg on the last tank. Just had a complete tuneup done on the 5.9L (2002 Quad 2wd, 68K miles) yesterday, will see what the mileage is on the next tank of gas (had them do the induction cleaning). Was getting a P0308 code (misfire on cylinder 8), so had the full shebang done. Should be good to 100000 miles now.

 

Hey everyone, Thanks for the imput. I seem to be on average with you all and I have been calculating mine by hand in town and on 40 mile trips. If anyone finds some miracle for gas mileage let me know.

 

NOt much you can do I think. These things are heavy, have a huge air scoop of a front grill and are trucks..=) Don't really buy trucks to get good milege.

 

Yup, I agree. Its amazing the people that will buy them, not tow or haul anything (hence you should be driving a car) and still have the nerve to whine about gas mileage. Maybe they shouldn't have bought a truck, right or wrong? No one on this thread did it, everyone on this thread are good people and understand that this isnt gonna put out number in the 20 mpg or higher range. Its funny though, there are posts on here where people thought because they paid $30000 for their truck that it should be getting those numbers. Sometimes all you can do is just shake your head and feel sorry for them. I'd say considering our weight, aerodynamics, and engine size that we do pretty good for mileage.

 

I had the Dakota QC 4x4 with the 4.7 and my 5.7 gets better mileage. However the difference between getting 14mpg and say 20mpg is only about $24 per 1000 miles @ $2.00 per gallon. Since there is nothing out there that I'm willing to live with, that gets better than 20, that's a small price to pay for V8 power in a pickup.

On average in the city where I do most of my driving I got no better than 12.3 (according to my computer). I took off the muffler and got 13. For a while I had a Flowmaster 40 series on there dumped and I got 13.5. I think the flowmaster helped a little bit.
