I have a '99 1500 Ram 4WD with a 360 automatic. I am having a shift problem from second to third. Sometimes it will shift perfectly and for no apparent reason it will hang up in second gear. I don't think it is going in to limp mode because I can make it shift manually by pulling the gear selector down in to 2 and then back in to drive. Otherwise, I have to over run the gear up to about 40 MPH. The throttle pressure seems to make it shift but that is not always possible with traffic conditions and speed limits. Operating temperature doesn't seem to have any affect on it and it is unpredictable because is may stick at one upshift and not the next. The fluid smells clean and appears red. I bought the truck used so I don't have any history as far as any tranny work but the dealer supposedly did a tranny service as part of their used vehicle program. I don't think that it is a keeper and I don't want to get raped for a complete rebuild at a tranny shop if it's something as simple as a speed sensor or a solenoid but I don't know where to look. Sure would appreciate any help you could offer. Thanks in advance.
