Windshield Wiper Click

Just like I titled it. Does anyone else get a click when you turn on the wipers at certain intermittent speeds? If it is at max, it does not do it, but at intervals where it has to pause before it swipes again, it will make a profound "click" noise coming from under the dash somewhere.

The clicking you are hearing is most likely the relay for the wipers. The relay is what makes it stop and go at intermittent speeds. I have heard fairly load ones and others you coudnt hear if you had too. Hope this helps you.

Thanks for the response. I know the relay isn't bad, or the wipers wouldn't work. I was just wondering what would make the click? It clicks at the start of each swipe, unless I have it on max setting with no pause between swipes. ??

its normal for the relays to make a clicking sound when they open and close. it sounds like a clock. tick to close (start), tock to open (stop). the relays are located in the power distribution box, drivers side under the hood, to the rear of the battery. pull off the top cover and it will include a diagram of what's what. there are a number of relays that are all the same. you could try swapping a couple and see if you find one that is quieter. If your noise is coming from this box, then its the relays, and its normal. Under the dash is the CTU (central timing unit), which controls the intermittent wiper timing. This is also where the various chimes come from. Its just a circuit board and a speaker. I've never heard it make any noise.

Thanks for the info! It is coming from under the dash - too profound of a sound to be coming from the fuse box in the engine bay. I guess I will just deal with it, I can crank my music up and not hear it, and normally here in S. FLA, if it rains, it pours, so I usually have the wipers at max where I don't hear the click.
