maybe I'm wrong but I think with backspacing more = less. So if it was more than 4.5" it would be say...3.5". If it was less than it'd be 6". The lower the number the farther it sticks out right?

no.....more does not equal less. If it had more than 4.5" backspacing it could be 4-5/8, 4-3/4, 5, 6, etc. Problem with more is it moves the wheel close to suspension parts.

the pre 06 trucks have more room, but there has to be somebody with an 06 or newer 1500 with 13.5 wide tires.

I just got a set of 35x13.5 R 17 M/T I'm going to attempt to put on here soon. I bought a 3in front leveling kit and also I had to buy 1.25in lug adapters. So we shall see
