i purchased a 1983 b150 stubby with a slant six in it can anyone tell me what kind of tranny i have in it (it;s automatic) will a 318 hook up to it down the road? i love my slant six and would not tear it out, i just wanted to know for my own reference. thx

That transmission is probably either an A904 or A998. There may be a sticker under the hood that tells this.

No...a 318 won't bolt up to a /6 transmission. You'll have to get a V8 transmission, which will be an A727, A904, or A999.

'67 or '68 is when Chrysler Corp. started building a slant six specific Torqueflite with the high-mount starter provision cast into the bellhousing. Prior to this an adapter plate was used to bolt a V8 style Torqueflite to a slant six. This was in truck applications only. A slant six Torqueflite won't bolt to a 318 and vise versa..totally different bellhousings. Likewise a big-block Torqueflite won't bolt to a slant six or a small-block engine.
