Well I had the muffler shop take out that huge factory muffler and the that little muffler I think is called resonator in the rear. What is the part that is just after both catalytic converters but before the muffler? It looks like anothr resonator between the cats and the muffler? The reason I am asking is because I had a Magnaflow muffler put on and a dual exhaust put on after the new Mag muffler but the sound is still pretty dern quiet. Should I go ahead and take out that other what I call a mini muffler so that it has a better sound with the magnaflow? Its aweful quiet.

on my 05 hemi, I had a cat, then the muffler and then the resonator right before the tailpipe exit. They may have changes something depending on what year. I have the magnaflow with a side exit right behind the passenger rear door. I actually had to put a longer magnaflow on because it was too loud!

What year is your truck?

Are the 2 cats your talkin about after the headers/Exhaust manifolds? The little one before the muffler is a cat also.

Quick 99, yes, there is like another little muffler between the cats and the actual huge factory muffler. Not sure what that is? Funny you should say it was too loud, my Magnaflow is 5x9x22 inches long. But its not much louder than the factory one. Its one in and two out.

CRMRAM, its an 06. Yes, that little muffler looking deal is between the cats and the factory muffler. So you think that is another cat? So that would mean there is one cat on both sides after the exhaust manifold, and they connect into the one 3 inch pipe then it goes into that little muffler, which you say is another cat???

NJDODGER, it sure looks like thats what it is. I noticed that the O2's are set up with one before the cat, and one after the cat so the computer can make whatever adjustments it needs to after reading the second O2 so I wasnt sure why it would need a third single cat? But then again, not sure why it needs two resonators but maybe because its a hemi?

It's another resonator, I think it's there to cut down the MDS sound

That will definately wake it up, I used to have a Flowmaster knock-off and I left that front resonator on at first, had it taken off a week later and it made a big difference

Now thats what Im talkin bout. I cant wait until morning to have it removed. You obviously know from experience and that helps alot. Thanks a bunch fello Ram owner.

The combination of the two small resonators and the large "school bus" sized muffler are used because the different volumes inside each one are used to absorb or cancel out certain exhaust pulses/frequencies. With the MDS you basically need an exhaust system to quiet and tune the sound of two engines, 1 8cyl and 1 4cyl.

Well I had it removed today it did make a difference but not the difference I was looking for. I am not looking for the mustang varoom varoom sound but more like that deep truck sound. I was told to go with flowmaster 50 series muffler and it would sound much throatier.
