How do you know when your ballast craps out ?

Are there ways to test one

Put a test light on the coil end of the resistor(usually brown wire) should have power with the key on.

Hi Ram Man,
In my experience the motor will start while cranking and then shut off when the key is returned to the run position.
My $.02

Dart man has a point.
I forgot you have electronic ignition.
Does the motor crank but doesn't start?
if I remember correctly there is a 5 ohm and a 0.5 ohm resister in the ballast.
If you disconnect one end, turn the key on and test for voltage on both pins you can rule out the ballast. If you get no voltage on ether pin, reconnect the other end and test the other end.
If you use a test light, one side of the ballast will be dimmer than the other, that's normal.
I guess this my $.04
Good luck.

 Ignition switch? Can you hot wire it to see if that's it?
