Waterproofing

I may not get any responses but I figured I'd ask anyway.

Since they don't have an ignition system, I've heard diesels are capable of running underwater, with only a snorkel.

I was wondering if anyone could kick out any ideas on how someone could waterproof as much as possible on these trucks, to let's say, have fun crossing a river or something, LOL.

Just looking for any ideas on how feasable something like that would be for a project truck.

Yeah I'm SCUBA certified so I got that outta the way :D :D

Thanks for any responses :thatfunny

A hummer can go partially underwater but it has no interior carpet or electronics on the floor to get wet. Your truck on the other hand does. Not a good idea.
Your wiring harnesses are not sealed either and once they get wet they will begin to corrode.
Your truck can go in water deep enough to flood the interior carpet without a snorkle. I'm from Louisiana and after smelling a few Katrina cars that got wet and dried out. You DON'T want water in your truck!!!

It can be done.Project truck right?
Over view: Remove all unnecessary wiring, relocate any and all control modules and enclose in a water tight case, seal and reroute all needed wiring, Extend all vent lines rear end, transmission ,motor, fuel etc..,
Well thats a start go to work :D

Maybe joefox will be willing to cover every thing in plastic for you

Hey thanks for the repsonses so far..

Few other things I was thinking about, for a project like this.
Take out headliner, and carpet.
Spray floor with rhino liner.
Replace the cloth seats with a pair of off road seats.
Build custom dash, with only the essentials, and waterproofing all connections
Replace engine driven fan with an electric one, and run a switch in the cab.

And here's one I thought of while boating today :D
Mount a fish finder, with the transducer on the front bumper, pointing ahead. That way you'll know when it's about to get too deep, LOL

Yeah I can agree with you on that one.....I worked a little bit last summer cleanin out some of that crap and it was one of the most disgusting things I've ever done. The mold and mildew in some of those cars was about a foot deep on the floor.

I've seen a few jacked up suvs with everything on the interior rhino lined and with a snorkel. It was pretty cool and it looked like they were having so much mud ridin and goin through water up to the windshield. (It was at an old rice field that was flooded for crawfish season hehe) If I could have 2 trucks I would definetly do something like that to one so I could just go screw around in it. I think someone should try it :rck:
