This is gonna be a problem with anyone installing a flip on a 3rd Gen truck if using a "PINCH STYLE " bracket for the flip without doing some welding to prevent problems!!!! 2 companies have a flip that uses a CLAMP style bracket that is 2 piece to CLAMP the flip bracket to the axle which eliminates the need to worry about this type of Problem.....Ground Force and DJM!!! BellTech,McGaughys and the 4 sets I built all use the original perch pads to rely on anchoring the new perches to!!! The original perches are fine to set the springs on top of and clamp to but when used to anchor a flip bracket to the bottom of it needs to be fully welded to prevent from bending and cracking due to the welding that DC has done to the original ones!!!!! My brackets didnot cause the damage but with them being butted up against a weakly welded factory perch they were allowed to move under pressure of the axle movement!!! My brackets actually saved it from more damage by having the extra bolt driven into the original bracket for more support!!! High horsepower trucks and ones used in drag racing that use this type of flip Bracket need to fully weld the old perch before installing the new one to the axle and Might even weld the new perch on for added insurance against movement!!!! Any questions feel free to ask.......This is gonna be a problem with bellTech / McGaughy's and the few of mine out there if not welded Like I have stated for added insurance!!!! Brian

These Pics are from EMT1(Todd) truck before he could get to someone to have them fully welded!!!!

looks like a bad weld from the factory actually..
That is the point EXACTLY!!!!! Not to Good of work from a Multi-Million dollar piece of Machinery!!!!

The Brackets i made performed Flawlessly and werent damaged or harmed in any way and actually prevented less damage due to the extra Bolt I installed to help Lock the bracket to the perch!!!! I always weld My brackets on when I do drops at the House but dont always have access to one on the road so I have to rely on them getting the welding done after I leave...This one didnt make it that long before the factory one gave up!!!!

I wouldnt call it a weld at all the factory puts on there....Maybe a slight BOND!!!!

Bah I just typed a 30 line post about how Ground Force doesnt do this and may be a DJM problem only, then I realized i read the post wrong.

Ground Force flips are nice and prove themselves once again.

OK......where in My two post was'nt I clear enough on what brands may be affected by this????? LOL!!!!

Nothing wrong with the other PROVEN brands If DC was Consistent enough to weld every Perch On like Some I've seen and Not start Skimping on work Like Poor half-ass welds(NOT even the Whole Diameter of the perch is touched with a bead)!!!! Never would a problem like this exist if the perches were welded on Like Most other Brands of vehicles......BTW it is Not only a Chrysler issue as Fords Have started doing the same Shoddy welding on some of their Perches.

I agree Ground Force has a Nice Flip....they Must have done their R & D on a truck that actually had the poor welds to have decided to use their style of clamping system..............................Just trying to helpful as always and pointing out a potential flaw that may cause problems even if a flip Isnt used......This style of welding could Fail even under a hard launch with the leaves in a factory location without Notice!!!!!!!

So did you hammer, patch, and reweld that, or is he going to DC with it? I'd be curious to see if DC says about the warranty being that is was flipped.

In that 2nd photo, it looks like the perches were misaligned and the lower was putting pressure on the lip of the upper. Am I seeing that wrong? If that were the case, then the new perch not setting in the old perch correctly there under the crack would not have allowed the axle to sit completely in the new perch. And all the force of that side was being directly put on the old perch with the axle suspended under it instead of through the u bolts and the axle. Of course that would crack.

MIS-ALIGNED!?!?!?!? You are seeing Pics after the Damage was done and the axle had rotated a few times back and forth !!! The perches were installed correctly TRUST ME!!!! As far as DC doing something......YEAH RIGHT......Again...The point is being made to check your pads to be SAFE!!!!

LOOK at the PHOTO more closely and you will see that the split portion is not entirely welded......This perch is probably 3" diameter (axle is 3 1/2) and the weld in the diameter of the perch is no more than 1 1/2 to 2 inches welded and not even taken to the edges of the perch by a full 1/2 inch or so!!!!!!!

Dude Im just trying to Help out!!!!

O no doubt you're trying to help. I know you were calling this to everyones attention to keep an eye on everything and for sure recheck everything after driving around for a hundred miles or so. I was just wondering if I was seeing this wrong and if the broken piece had shifted. It looks like the new perch was touching the old perch and would have caused some extra stress on those welds in that particular spot. See photo of where i am referring.

Thanks for the heads up. i am going to recheck mine tonight just to be sure.

Bah I circled the wrong spot......check again.......

Spharis......The axle had already been rotated a few times back and forth after the perch bent the first time and there after....that caused the shiny mark your opointing out!!!!!! The perch was totally bottomed out before Tightening the U-Bolts fully!!! The perches are designed to press equally under the original.......under axle rotation under load the rear part of the original pad takes the load as the pinion trys to rotate up!!!!

Check your definately!!!! Wont be as critical with Your GroundForce with the extra plate on top though!!!!

Check the area above Your CIRCLE........the lifted piece isnt even welded to the end!!!! It actually starts the weld 1/2 inch up from the edge!!!!!

WOW I wasnt trying to start anything........

Thats what I figured.

BTW are you still getting McGauphys parts, and how long into the future do you plan on doing so? I am still undecided on a couple things, but would like to know if you are still doing this (I assume with a deposit or payment in advance).

Huh?????
I think this another one of those mistyped misread threads where facial expressions would help get the point accross.........I was just curious. I wasn't bashing or anything.

And yes that weld does sux.......the only ones I've seen worse than those were on that body dropped and bagged ram somewhere in one of these threads where the welds were like an inch high and not through the metal.

I guess I should have Used SMILEYS through the post!!!

I have installed Plenty of Drops in my past to know if it was an install problem or Part failure is what Im getting at.If it were my first and only drop I would be asking for advice in the matter and not pointing out the potential problem I am being made aware of !!!!! :D

No doubt, thats why I usually require half up front for any programming or design I do.

I welded the original perches as best I could (Difficult to weld over a crappy weld without total grinding it out first)to prevent that to happening!!!!! I always prefer to do some welding to some items but dont always have access to one on the road!!!! It is left up to the individuals to have them welded after wards if possible!!!!

You think lifted trucks dont have problems?!?!?!? LOL!!! Ask Chauncy about sway bar links and shocks!!!!! BillyBob this is a problem that could affect even a stock truck suspension if the right conditions are met!!!!!
