tug-a-war.....CTD vs. PSD

Okay who would win. I have a 2004.5 CTD 2500 4x4 w/ 6 speed quad cab long bed with 315/70R17 BFG A/T's......intake, torque tube and high flow exhaust. With or without the triple dog Crazy Larry program.

Or a 2004 Ford F-350 SRW 4x4 crew cab short bed auto, with stock tires. But with an aftermarket turbo, injectors, 4" exhaust and a 250hp superchips program. Owner thinks it would be putting out like 500hp.

I have seen auto vs auto tug-a-wars before where the Dodge cleaned house with the Ford. But I have a granny six speed, so whatever gear I start in I am stuck with til its all over. Fords usually get their power higher in the rpm range, whereas Cummins has low end grunt. The Ford owner is a drag racer, doesn't do much off-roading.....so I don't know if he knows how to tug-a-war or not.

What do you guys think?

i thank its a great wat to beat your truck and take atleast 100,000 miles off the tranny.j/k man idk i dont thank i would put my truck trough that.i would have to say the dodge would get it
the auto might win he can spool up and 500hp is a lot start in 2nd you might have him just shoot vid
What terrain too?

His auto with all those mods has a pretty big advantage over you. But depending on the surface and how much traction you can keep... it'll either be close, or you won't get beat too bad. lol
Its all about traction. The first guy to spin looses. Tug-o-wars don't mean anything. If you have 5000 HP and can't put it on the ground a 200 HP truck will pull you backwards quicker than you can think.

One thing seems for sure...don't run it without Crazy Larry! I think he'll have you beat, but I haven't ever been in a tug o war with my truck, so I don't know for sure.
tug of war has more to do with who weighs the most and hooks up the best than who has the most hp
Sounds like a perfectly good way to tear up a perfectly good truck and a perfectly lousy PSD. It's not worth it and Ram3500dually is right...
the question is not wether or not he should do it, or if he will tear anything up.

I think the ford has you. ive watched a 7.3 Ford on stock tires and a chip with an auto against a Dodge dually with 500rwhp, 5sp and 22.5 alcoas and something like 40 inch tires. The ford and the dodge just tightened the strap. neither one of them pulled the other.
I just think the auto will be a big advantage
Like I said before, I've never competed in a tug of war, but I would imagine that driver skill would play a role as well.
Speaking from experience here-

Go get a 1000 lbs of anything and put it in your bed then hook em up. The whole thing is totally about traction- ever notice at a tractor pull how it takes 1000 hp to pull the sled one way and a 200 hp tractor to pull it back to the begining of the track? I personally tried pulling a 90' something chevy 2wd stepside with my 86' f250. We hooked up with a big ole logging chain I had. I fired up the 460 and.... went nowhere because he decided to stand on the brakes and simply not move while my one-wheel wonder spun away. So... since he wouldn't play fair, I simply backed up to his bumper, took a running start and tore the chain right out of his frame. Hey, I needed to unhook it anyway...
that would be sweet to see them duel it out in a sled pull, much better results then a tug of war....
Use 4 LOW and 3rd gear. :D

why not 4 low and 1st (granny)
Holy crap... I can only imagine how much grunt that would have...
Would be awesome to see non the less. Just make sure what ever you hook the strap up to is secured to the truck! I did some thing similar with my Jeep and a buddy’s Jeep. He tried to tell me his 4.0L I6 stocker (now a 4.7L) could tow my Grand Cherokee with the 4.7L V8 around all day.

Well, around lunch time out in the packing lot we dueled. Both Jeeps just kinda sat there, he finally lost it and I pulled him. But as I was doing so, the pin in my hitch decided it was a perfect time to come out. It let lose and just about hit the Wrangler. Good thing he didn’t have his hardtop on or it would have had a hell of a dent in it. Landed in his back seat...
Just to save you wear and tear on your truck go here and check out there media section http://inlinediesel.com/
this should curb your appetite.
put a lot of weight in the bed, go with 4hi and set your bully dog to tow, and i'm pretty sure you would take it

A. Its way so slow of a gear

B. to much torque to hold you will spin out as soon as you take the slack up pretty much beating yourself
Just go easy.
