It must have a major problem (torque converter going bad) The trans temp is usually tripped by a bad torque converter.

just wanted to give you all some feedback. I finally decided to have the transmission rebuilt. After all, the old girl's only got 120K miles, so should have quite a bit of life left in her. Just got a call that it's done....can't wait to pick her up!

Thanks for all your support, although in the end I could not fix it myself, it was worth the effort and I could not have done it without you.

How much they charge you for it? im dreading the day.....knocking on wood.

it was 1249 for what they call a "soft rebuild". They told me upfront that it could be up to $150 more if some hard parts needed replacing, like bearings. That was the case, $120 more, so 1369 including all labor, plus some oil, shop fees and tax....shifts smooth as butter now:):) Of course I already replaced the sensors myself, so it is all as good as new now
