TPS installation?

852 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  JWM1986
I pulled the TPS off a spare throttle body I had, not knowing it was like a clock spring inside, and it unwound itself... I did a search and didn't come up with anything... I'm attempting to put it back on, but need to know... How many times do I have to wind it (you know what I mean), before I bolt it back on the tb? Any help would be much appreciated guys! :help:

i dont even think you need it lol, i broke mine trying to put it back on and it didnt hurt anything
I dunno man... I was under the impression that anything EFI needed a TPS... Hell I used to have a 280z, and if the tps got barely out of adjustment, it would cutout at like 3000 rpms...

:EDIT: I figured it out... I just started messing with it, and it turns out, there's like less than a turn of springy-ness in there, lol... It just sounded like it REALLY came unwound ... I figured it out... I guess I should have tried to put it back on before I post this... Sorry for the waste of space.
unless it totally came apart you shouldnt have to wind anything up.. you should just have to put it on turned 90* or so then just turn it until the holes line up and put the screws in...
Strange, mine's nothing like that, I think there's a return spring inside them, but when I took mine off it all stayed together, refitting it was just a matter of lining up the slot with the throttle shaft and screwing it down.

That's exactly what it was... It's just when I took it off it sounded like it really came unwound, which fooled me... Once I sat down and started messing with it, it was a piece of cake.
forgot to mention which way to have it turned to start with but sounds like you've got it figured out now.... i guess mine made i 'unwinding' noise as well when i took it off the first time, i dunno its been a while
