Thinking about a diesel, have a few questions...

As my thread title states, I am considering purchasing a diesel. Diesel ram of course. I am looking at them used, as I do not want the payment on a 40k + truck.

I am seeing 2-3 year old gen 3's going for 17-28 k on ebay depending on mileage. Right around what I am looking to spend, however, I have a hard time convincing myself to drop 20k plus on a truck with 100k + miles.

Should I let the mileage bother me, and wait a year or two to get a new truck, or bite the bullet and get a used one?

Any and all opinions are greatly appreciated! Thanks! :)

a used diesel ram will last you a half a million miles if you treat it right. the bad thing about buying off ebay is you dont know how the previous owner treated the truck. your best bet would be to find trucks locally so you can test drive them and check them out for any problems.

Note: 04.5's and up have the 325/600+ motor. Pre 04.5 have the 305/555 motor. thats horsepower/torque ratings.
Cool thanks for your input. :)
You could also buy a used one now and save your pennies and trade it in on a new one in a year or two. The used CTD's hold their value quite well. 02's also had a 250 HP SO along with the 305 HP HO
Just incase you haven't seen it, here is the breakdown of the 3rd gen engines
2003 S.O. Federal Emissions: 250HP/460lb.ft. Available with NV4500 or 47RE
2003 S.O. Calif. Emissions: 235HP/460lb.ft. Available with NV4500 or 47RE
2003 H.O. Federal Emissions: 305HP/555lb.ft. Only available with NV5600
2003.5 The 47RE was replaced by the 48RE automatic transmission and available with the H.O.

2004 S.O. Calif. Emissions: 235HP/460lb.ft. Available with NV4500 or 48RE
2004 H.O. Federal Emissions: 305HP/555lb.ft. Available with either NV5600 or 48RE

2004.5 (50 state legal) 325HP/600lb.ft. Available with either the 48RE or NV5600

2005 (50 state legal) 325HP/610lb.ft. Available with either the 48RE or NV5600

2005.5 The NV5600 replaced with the G56 6spd manual gearbox.

One thing to think about when buying a higher mileage truck. The engine if properly maintained will go many miles, however the rest of the drive line and interior should be inspected well. Any make of car / truck will wear out wheel bearings, u-joints, brake hoses, clutch cylinders, master cylinders etc. Check it well before you buy to make sure you are comfortable with it.
Cool, thanks for the replys every one!

I will begin to look around at dealers and keep reading on the forums. If I do purchase, it wont be until after the beginning of '07 as I want to have a couple thousand to put down when I make the purchase. I refuse to buy with $0 down.
Is the employee pricing still on??? I paid a little over 32K for my 06...
