How can I tell what degree thermostat I have in my truck? I have never changed it so I know that it is whatever the factor put in it. Looking at the gauge it is kinda hard to tell.

I want to change it out for a 160 but I would also hate to do that if it is already a 160.

The temp should be stamped on the outer ring somewhere.

On the 1995 5.9/5.2 Magnum V8s the factory thermostat was a 'standard grade' Robertshaw/Siebe with 195 stamped on it.

I don't think that a 160 degree thermostat will work well. Dyno testings has shown no advantage in either HP or Torque for 180 or 160 thermostats. Anything below a 180 will usually trigger a check engine light.

180* Thermostat is the minimum you should go. I would never recommend anything below that, 195 is correct, that is the stock.

Thanks everyone, and sorry the 180 was my fingers and brain not working. I was thinking about the 180 not 160 like I had typed.

I picked up a Hypertech programmer and wanted to change the thermostat before I made any programming changes to the truck.

195 stock. 180 if your run any type of programer or PCM. Also get the step colder plugs.
