thanks much appreciated! i have some other good/bad news, i got fed up yesterday and crawled under it again and found the "new" upper pitman arm tie rod end thing that connect's to the steering gear box swing arm was popping like a pimple on the face of a teenager! i then got upset and drove up to the shop that put these "new" parts on and pointed it out to them. i have an appointment Friday again....the only thing that makes me wonder is with these mega cabs all there parts are 3/4 ton parts but its called a 1500? so when they called to order another one the parts place was saying i had a rack and pinion steering system and he was saying obviously not. so when i buy parts is it easier to just call it a 2500?
Yep, get accustomed to going through the speil..."Yes it is a half ton, sort-of, it only says that on the doors but all of the parts are the same as a 2500" if they argue, find a new parts store, cause they're morons!
As for the power, yea not so quick, mine wont even do a burn out on dry pavement (limited slip rear) I've thought about a tuner but just haven't pulled the trigger--to be honest I'd rather buy a new shotgun or use that money for fishing trips. But I'm sure it would help in the get-up and go department. I can live with mine as-is for now.

The guy fixing my truck said he can only order part's based on the info given by the truck...... but when the "moron" calls to order the stuff they can only find the parts he's asking for under a 2500..... kinda one of those i told you so things! mine can't break traction on dry pavement either.... iv seen a ton of you tube video's saying "stock" truck and tearing it up like it was nothing? ya im hesitant on getting a tuner but i think in the end the added 25hp to rear wheels they claim will be satisfying my beast is a strong open end diff, she'll break posi most times but when it counts it's right side strong overall i love the beast and wouldn't change anything but the clunk! which seems to be coming from that upper pitman arm? could it be an issue cause there trying to put 1500 part's on there? do you think there much diff? i will know Friday i guess? and this better be the last apt!

sweet thanks. i'l try to get some on today.
so clunk is now light and limited to rough road? i don't care any more! at least i have the peace of mind knowing all the part's are new and it's not the same exact clunk any more? i think maybe some just have weird things with them just out of the factory? and i figure i payed enough to have some one find it and fixed what was found so im done. now on to what performance part's to get! any recommendations?
your spare tire cranked up tight? did you go from a quad cab 1500 with 3.92 gears to a bigger mega 1500 with 3.73 gears and tall tire? that would make it feel like a slug.

ya checked spare a ton of times. and yes about the truck to truck. HUGE diff in overall performance! any good advice to make it feel like the quad cab?

i want your tires! im not overly impressed with the 285-70-17 Cooper Discoverer STT's i got and was thinking of going to a 275-70-18 with some of those black rock-star wheels? maybe better gas millage for a less aggressive but still savvy tire.
so on a exploratory mission i changed out the track bar bushings and of course still a clunk! any crazy ideas out there i haven't tried? last two on my list are
1-steering gear box?
2-shocks?
I'm am really glad to find this thread!! I have exactly the same issue. '06 Mega... Have already rebuilt the front end. Am anxiously waiting to hear you've found resolution with the shocks?
Oh, we also have an 05 QC 2500. I used the SC tuner on that. Returned it back to stock and have installed it on the Mega. I'm very happy with it. Gave it just what it need. IMO...

which tires? The ltz's are for sale, i have 3 that are half worn out and one new one. i had a blowout and had one replaced under the hazard coverage and ended up just having 4 new tires put on while i was there. I went with bfg long trail ta tour. they are just cushy highway tires like the stock goodyears but last longer than 10k. the best thing you could do for your truck performance wise would be gears like 4.10 or 4.56 if you keep running tall tires.

i feel your pain! i do shocks tomorrow, crossing my fingers! i was thinking that with the spacer lift and the way the shocks mount the 2.5" added exstension is what could be the problem? i found shocks for a 2500 that allowed 3 more inches of play that should take the strain off of them. is your mega lifted with the same spacers? haha finally a witness to the infamouse clunk! that means two things.... 1- im not crazy and 2- so far your f*%#ed too i will post the results on the repair tomorrow night! thanks for the insight on the tuner.

if your feeling it in the pedals my guess is some thing is hitting the cab of the truck and nothing in the suspension. check all motor mounts and trany mounts, better yet find some one with chassis ears and locate the problem the right way, now that you have a years worth of truck payments stuck into it. preferably not with the professional mechanics you been dealing with because there not professional at all, there parts changers i hate to tell ya. i read this whole post and laughed my a$$ off
flat rate killed the professional mechanic now its I cant find the problem because your over due for a 30k transflush frt brakes and rotors and an ac tune up
There was a noise coming from appeared the transmission area on my dad's 2001 Dodge ram 1500. We checked everything we could possibly think of for the longest time. But still couldn't track down the source of the noise. Which did sound a lot like a clunking sound underneath the truck. Turns out it was the suregrip in the rearend. It was completely destroyed and just spining around in the rearend housing with ring and pinion gears. Opened it up and took out all the metal. Luckedly, the ring and pinion appeared to be unaffected. So far, it is still holding up.
My 06 1500 had the same symptoms when the front unit wheel bearings were going out. Different axles and setup but still use the unit bearings. Just a thought.
