My 94 Dodge 3500 will change the engine sound and rpms when I depress the brake lightly while depressing the accelerator. It sounds like the transmission is about to shift, and in fact sometimes it kicks out of overdrive when I do this. If the headlights are on, it seems that they dim a little during this.
Is all this something to be concerned about?
That's normal for your truck to do that. The brake switch under the dash is somehow linked to the trans or computer and will kick out of O/D (unlock the torque converter) when the brake is pressed. If you look under the dash you will see where the brake pedal touches the switch im referring to. Sorry i cant give you a more detailed description, but I'm sure someone else here will.
The torque converter unlocks when the brake switch is depressed, this is normal, RPM should flare 300 RPM or so.
Keep on trucking !!
