Ok, here's the deal...I've got an 04 5.9 CTD. I've been looking to get a programmer and I've found that I'm still rather ignorant as far as the specs of my truck, and what some of the technical lingo means. Now when I look at some of the programmers it asks if I have a common rail system, or whatever, and I really don't know. I think I had a comman rail, but a few months back, my fuel pump went out, and the dealership upgraded me to the in-tank fuel pump conversion. So does that affect which programmer I would use? Also, I recently looked and I have the 325hp engine, and not the 305 that was also out in 04. Does that mean even though my data plate says April 04 for manufacture, that I have an 04.5? And if I do install a programmer, do I need to make any modifications to the tranny, or anything else? I just recently upgraded to 35" tires, and know that my speedometer isn't accurate, where can I get that re-calibrated? Thanks in advance!

The changeover from 04 to 04.5 happened at Christmas 2003. Anything built in the 04 callender year to July was an 04.5. All CTD's from model year 2003 and later are CR's (common rail). Here is something to help you.

Any programmer adding more than 75HP is eventually going to cause you transmission troubles.
