hello all
have a 04 2500 2wd 180,000 ml
towing a 7,000 5th wheel
5.7
nv4500
4.11
thinking about building engine
looking for thoughts on ether stroking 5.7 or doing a 6.1 swap local engine builder recommended the stoker for the torque
Did you put in a 4.11 or is the OEM 4.10?
A 6.1 would give you a bigger bore to work with IF you were gonna stroke that; stroking the 5.7 automatically gives you a longer stroke (6.1 and 5.7 have the same stroke, just different bore size). The same crank you would use to turn a 5.7 into a 6.4/392 turns a 6.1 into just about a 426. Between a simple 6.1 swap or stroking the 5.7, you're ahead of the game with the 5.7. 6.1's are getting harder to find these days. If you try to use a complete 6.1 long block you run into other troubles as well.
my mistake oem 3.73 gears thought i was told when i bought the truck new it had 4.10 never looked at sticker i'm looking for the longer stroke for more torque, bigger cam better heads and intake
