what is the towing capacity on my stock hitch (2003 SLT package)

If you have the tow package with the 3:92's stay in the 8500 range. People will say to add up this and that, but the rating is around 8500 minus passengers and cargo. The truck doesn't like much over 8k anyway once you hit any hills. I feel the brakes and suspension are more then enough for 9k, but unless you are running a cam, 8k is the top of the comfort zone for the motor for extended trips.

8,500 is a bit optimistic. 7,800 is about the max for a 1500. If you have just a bumper hitch, it's under 5,000.

8500lbs was the max rating. That is a 2wd hemi with tow package. 4x4 lowers the rating, 4.7L lower, 20" wheels is lower.......

That being said every manufacturer (or engineer in general) builds in a factor of safety when designing a vehicle. So you should safely be able to tow 8500lbs without a problem.

well my flip hitch is only rated at 5000 lbs....i wondered why such a drop.

yes, i run a cam. 22s, 5.7 hemi.

i don't tow very high, or that often. i just need to be able to if i do

The bumper ball hitch is 5k but the receiver should be a 12k rateing, unless it is a lower class.
