Anyone know what the stock exhaust size is? I am looking to replace the stock muffler with a magnaflow 12278 or something like that. From my search it appears that is what a couple of folks are going with. Just wondering if the 3" inlet/outlet is correct. Vehicle is 05 Limited 2WD. Getting some sway bar bushings replaced at the dealer right now and have no access to the car. My plan was to pick up the muffler on the way to get the Durango and then have it installed. I searched for awhile but I could not find a definite size. OH yeah, Hello to everyone.

Thanks,

Art,

It's been a while since I worked on my exhaust but I seem to remember the openings on the factory muffler to be 2.5". Welcome to the boards!!

Thanks for the info. I did not think they were that big from the the factory. I will get a 2.5 muff and go from there. Though if I get the 3" then I can add 3" pipe later!!!! Gotta keep it on the low down the wifey is already a little upset that I am changing the muffler. She does not want it too loud. I just dont want any drone.

I used a 12286 with SI/SO 2.5" on both sides. Just needed a little piece to make up the difference. Overall length is 30" so it is almost the same as the stocker. I also had the resonator cut off and magnaflow tip added. 80 bucks for the muffler, and 60 for install with tip all welded up nice and neat. Sounds great but I think it may be too loud for the wifey!! It does seem to have a drone when coming to a stop so I will have to check that out. Other than that not too bad at all...

Cruising is fine, its when I am coming to a stop. Its like the sound is coming down like the rpm's which should be expected but as you come to a complete stop it seems to drone and only at a stop. I noticed it also does it at idle seems almost with the AC only.

I know I used a 3" clamp on the pipe fitting at the bend in the Magnaflow cat back exhaust system and a 2.75" on the front where it attaches to the OEM Y pipe. By the way, I wouldn't use the standard exhaust clamps since they tend to crush or deform the pipes to create a seal. I ordered stainless band clamps - no deformation and they work great. They look just like the OEM clamps.
