I have just taken our '06 Sprinter in for its 20,000 mile service. The dealership informed us that we needed brakes and that the rotors on a Sprinter could not be turned, to the tune of a full replacement at over $500. Is this a valid statement?

Also, does anyone have any data on service costs and whether the cost of service could potentially offset gas mileage savings?

This is a valid statement about the brakes that is. They cant be turned. Usually they always need rotors. Atleast thats how we sell it. The price is well ok...i forget how much we get for front pads and rotors. Service is important. It might seem pricey but service is the key to these things lasting as long as you want them. Mercedes builds them and yes some issues are there fault, but just as many are from the lack of maintenance.
