i originally had this posted in the interior/exterior but i need some input asap... sorry...

well i got our mechanic to check my durango yesterday... he said i might have to get the ball joint lubed... and then another thing i noticed was that my steering wheel is really really squeaking inside... i can really hear it... what can i do with this?

also, i have another problem that i noticed today... my engine light is lighting up on my gauge, my car is a 2000 and the mileage is up to 70,200... this means i need a tune up right? is it a major one? and how much will this cost?

let me know guys... thanks!

the check engine light means something is throwing a code, you can take it to AutoZone and they'll hook it up and read it. Chances are, it's P0138 = 02 sensor (rear).

Your ball joints can't be lubed. They are sealed. I believe your 2000 has a recall on the balljoints. Your sqeaking is probably coming from your front sway bar bushings.

Your check engine light can be triggered by a multitude of signals from your OBDII system. You need to check what the code is. You can read it yourself by turning your key ON (do not start)-OFF-ON-OFF-ON on the third ON any codes should flash on the odometer window. Once you have the code, you can determine what the code is from OBDII.com, a web search, site search or just post what it is here. As mentioned above, if you cannot get it yourself Autozone will read it for free.

that's crazy. autozone here comes out takes the readout and gives you the print out. No $$$$$$

That is correct, I had seen it posted before that in the great state of CA, Autozone is not allowed to read.......errrr diagnosis problems.

Why go to Autozone when you can get it youself?

wow i actually changed my plans.... on my way to autozone, i was thinking that i might not be able to decode it because im not that good yet in doing this like this... before autozone, i saw an auto shop and went in to check if they can decode engine lights... well i did it there and they charged me $45 which isnt bad since it was gonna be a lot more accurate than me. i found out that it is a POWER STEERING SWITCH FAILURE. i told them to turn the light off so i can monitor it. well to find out if it happens again, i have to drive 40mph for 30 straight seconds or more. every since i decoded it, the squeaking in the steering wheel disappeared. i already called dodge and pre-ordered the switch for around $30. im going to monitor it for the next few days so i know if im gonna change it or not.

Glad you got it but there not to be accurate about. The code is simple to determine. There are lots of sites that have exactly what the code means.

You should really change out that switch ASAP. When my PS pressure switch went out, it caused PS fluid to travel through the wire harness and into my o2 sensor connectors, ruining them. I had to replace all 4 sensors.

I'm from the Government... and I'm here to help. Another example of the legislature screwing it up for the little guy. Sheesh.

Rudegirl, that sucks. What's up w/your avatar? It looks like it got hit with buckshot. I know what you mean about girls in trucks, they're usually talking on the phone!

I had to resize the pic for my avator so it came out all pixallated. I watch out for anyone who drives while on their cell phone...they usually brake unexpectedly or drive really slow.
