I'm looking for a car for my wife. and I came across a 96 stratus with only 73k on it and 1 owner. sweet price too. Is the stratus a good car? any known problems i should worry about? Should i get something different? Also looking at a 2000 stratus. Any difference in quality from those years. both motors are 2.4L and automatic trans. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I'd like to help... but I just picked one up and don't know a whole lot about them. PM LB3711 and he might be able to help you out some.

Well, I just bought myself a Stratus 2000, and this site was among the ones i came across while searching for info on the vehicle:

I love my car, even though here in Finland, even a five years old Stratus 2.5 V6 may cost about the same as a new one there - or more.

Perhaps good to caution you before giving you these - no car is without its faults...

I have read about some troubles with the 2.4-litre engines, can't get to my head now what it was about. The 2.0 is the most unreliable of the lot, I've come to believe. But it is all heresay. Those 2.4's were never imported here officially by Chrysler, but nowadays people import them self, used ones from Germany.

But bottomline is that I personally vote for Stratus! :)

I own a 99 Stratus. It has been a decent car. We have 95000 miles on it. At 45000 the head gasket failed, have replaced an O2 sensor. Other than that just routine maintainance. There has been a check engine light on and off, but I don't think it is anythign serious.

the 1g stratues aren't too bad if kept up well. I would suggest a newer one if possible. with the 2.4L go for the newer car the head gasket problem should have been fixed by then
