It all started out as a simple outing to the local Best Buy. I was on a mission, a mission of grave importance. I was taking back a defective PS3 controller. This is serious business! How was I to bring the pain to the eight year old sailors without a O or a Δ?

Well there I was cruising along on the highway, eying a nice looking 07 ram in my mirror, when i notice my exit. I execute a lane change and hear a THWUMP. I immediately scan the mirror looking for whatever i hit. Nothing but the oh so beautiful 07. Odd.

Then it hits the fan. My air vents blow warm air, the steering wheel turned into an elephant, and the trucks computer FLIPPED OUT.

I know in my gut what happened,i had to have snapped the belt...

I throw on the four ways and limp down the off ramp. Thank goodness the merge lane onto the surface street was a gentle curve because a cruise ship was easier to turn at this point. I limp along in the miraculously empty street for a couple of miles to the John Deere facility where my dad works and beach the whale in the empty lot. I got out and looked under the hood expecting to have to dig pieces of shredded belt from every nook, but lo and behold, the belt is fully intact and sitting on top of the radiator! I looked for nicks in it and found none.

I checked all the pulleys and found this:

After an hour of waiting for a ride I got a new idler pulley from Oreilly's and put it on and was good as gold. But best Buy was closed :bawl:

Could be worse my ps3 completely took a dump :D And now are very rare to find them in my area.

But seriously glad you were okay, I have never seen that happen before from a idler pulley.

I couldn't see how bad it was until i got it off either. The bearing granaded and the plastic melted from spinning around it.

I am going to try again on Best buy today hopefully without breaking anything!

Hmm. How many miles on your truck?

I just checked the idlers on my truck when I installed the supercharger bracketry.

I'm calling BS. It's not the controller grandpa. You just suck at PS3. C'mon, admit it. They all blame it on "that stupid controler" being broken. It's rare for someone to actually take it back to the store though. You really committed to the story.

j/k

Glad you could steer the boat to a rest. I've never had the ram die on me at speed, but every other car I've had has been really fun without power steering. I'm surprised a new idler pulley wasn't more expensive. $20 is a good deal.

Glad you got a good pulley. That one is made by Gates and I have never seen one come back in the year I have worked there. When I was at AutoZone and Advance, I saw theirs coming back all the time.

Ok i confess I am very mediocre at bringin da pain. Only on the rarest occasion lol. The controller is indeed messed up so it makes me double crap at online play...

The ram definitely isn't fun without power steering. It really had that "connected with the road" feel though. :D

The new pulley felt very good when i looked it over, heres to another six years.

I'll second that, and add a few comments. Excellent smiley emoticon placement at the end (which I believe really summed up the entire experience quite well), with an appropriate word to picture ratio. Throwing in the triangle character was classic, and you can also onomatopoeiafy with the best of them. That was an epic THWUMP! I do feel that I must take a point off for not capitolizing "I" in the 6th sentence however. This was a solid A post, but I believe I'll leave the "+" stamp dry.

When I had the wrong trans filter, mine would stall at 15 mph and under, usually when making sharp turns. Wit hthe 305 wide tires on there, it would take Bill Brasky like strength to get it to go anywhere. I just needed a British guy standing in the bed with binoculars yelling "ICEBERG!! STRAIGHT AHEAD!!"

Oh and "capitolizing". I'll take points from you for that one to make up for the lost "+" :D
