Hey all, new to the forum but not new to dodges. Have had dakota, durango and ram 1500.

anyway, I am in sensor hell!!! I have a few itiot lights.. and my speedo doesnt work. OK, no biggy Im thinking Ill take it in they will fix or replace the sensors.

well it is sensors and the check engine sensor is due to the air bag sensor being out? wtf? how can a sensor on a 5 year old truck go our specially for an air bag? is this a reacll item? They want to charege me 625 just to fix that one sensor, then they try to hit me with a rear speed sensor.

anyway
---email from wife---
Geo from Razzari called. The ABS light is on because a rear speed sensor is
out. That'll be $224 to replace. The check engine light is on because the
airbag module is shorted out. That'll be $625 to replace. The door handle
will be $140.12, we need a belt of some sort for $130, and a rear brake
light for $4.

Grand total to fix the Ram is $1125.

---

any suggestions? I can honestly say between the druango and the ram I am going to be very hard pressed to buy another Dodge truck.. Im thinking I can get the parts from dodge and have a local shop do the install and save soe cash?

What belt goes for 130?? My ram 1500 has one belt (serpitine)and it cost me 14.00 and took 5 minutes. The speedo/abs sensors are not hard to install either.Do a search for abs sensor I know there are some threads.Heres one What year is the truck?? Those prices must be parts plus labor.

That is sure some labor charge to put on a $14.00 belt. Is it the passenger side airbag? If you turn the airbag off will the light go out?

I will turn it off as soon as I get the truck back. as for hte belt, i guess its my fault I had my wife handle it.. she told them to replace it.. i called Jiffy lube 79.99 installed!!

I wish I would have know Dodge was going to do that. owell. as for the speed sensor its fixed byb didge I told them to forget about the freakin Airbag. asked them to reset the lights and i will take care of the rest.

If any of you good folks can help me with the ABS module issue (thats what it was not the air bag like my wife said) that would be GREAT!

Is the air bag light on or just the check engine? If the bad has a short in it, it should have deployed. Even at 79.99 for a belt install you're still getting screwed too. The belt is only like 15 bucks or so. It would take a wrench and maybe 5 minutes tops to put it on yourself.

never, never, never go to the dealership for anything. they're thieves. most auto parts places can get any sensor for less than half the dealership charges. disconnect the battery for 5 minutes to reset the lights and get a code reader ( about $20) and check your own codes. it's worth it.

You said your truck is 5 years old. Well my 99 ram was also in the shop to replace the ABS sensor. Fortunately I have an extended warranty and I just had to pay the deductible but I tend to believe the dealer said this was not a very expensive repair.

I would normally never take it to the dealer. We took it to Lon a fam friend and mech. He told us that he cant reset the light because it was a factory thing.

The belt I totally agree! I let my wife handle it and she didnt know and had them change it. Dodge dealers are crooks! When I called the guy tried to BS be using technical words and jargon. If he did that to my wife she would have not know what the heck was going on and when you mention "AIR BAG" and "SAFTY" she siad just fix it.. then I called and told him to get bent. Told him that other pole have had the same issue with this truck. Told them that the folks on this forum suggested replacing the speed sensor ect.. he shut up with the BS after that..

I ased him why he charges 180 buck for a 14 dollar belt and he acted like the factory belt was all super and better then the after market belts. Whatever. I made sure he knew I wasnt pleased.

Well, the lights are out now. I want to take it in for smog. The Dodge tech said I have to drive it for like 40-50 miles. Said this is part of the computer and that it needs a few successful "trips" before I can go get it smoged or it will not pass. Is this true? I never heard of this before.

thank you!

No, it's not true. When you reset the lights by disconnecting the battery cable, the computer goes to it's "default" settings and it only takes a few minutes to establish the new "base line" numbers for it to do it's thing.

well all seems well after they replaced the ABS sensor in the rear. no lights on yet knock on wood.

I forgot to mention, I also rest them myself by holding in the milage/odomitor button while turning on the truck that cleared them bt they came back on untill they replaced the sensor.
